Reptile Cynrik 2015 Traditional
Right now, I'm back into drawing my main character with traditional media. And looking back at my last character sheet... I thought: Wow, I have never drawn a character sheet with traditional media - scales inclusive!!
So, here I present to you my (more or less) ultimate character sheet of my main character Reptile Cynrik!
Or if you prefer the whole name: Daenok "Reptile" Cynrik!
This sheet shows the most important aspects about my character... his appearance, his body structure, the body proportions, the scale texture of his skin, his main battle armor and weapon. I also threw in some detail shots such as the hand, foot or eye.
It's been huge fun doing this sheet... and it is ALL traditional (except for the title and the "Dragonclaw" weapon).
Drawing media:
Pencils, ink, markers, Copics, acrylics and brush (no digital media, except for the title, info and "Dragonclaw")
Working time:
about 13 hours

Yeah, the name "Reptile" was more or less given to him by humans... and that's mostly because he was a "reptile"... XD I know, it's a silly name.
But when I've created him back in 1996 I didn't think about it. He was my "Reptile".
Today, I think it's cool to have more lore and background and I'm glad you also like the idea.

Hey we've all been there when we create characters, I've lost count of the amount of times I've scrapped and retired characters I've created due to giving them really silly names.
My first and current fursona is the only one I've really thought about with the name and I have no desire to change it anytime soon, I'm that satisfied with it.
Lore and backgrounds have always been the thing I like in people's characters what part they play in their native world as well as others in terms of crossovers, a concept seldom seen here, I plan on expanding my characters background myself just so he isn't another Mary Sue type character.

Hehe, vielen Dank auch! ^____^

You're most welcome ^..^
Admitting that would have been interesting to see also Dragonclaw done traditionally but I guess you felt this was enough, well, maybe doing by hand that floral pattern there might sorta have been bit pain to make, looks nice there as well by the way ;)

Now........ you just know I'm going to give you a big thumbs-up for being sure to feature those nice feet of his. :3 A very thorough reference! Hard to imagine him in the breast plate as he so rarely covers his chest up (and what a sexy chest at that), but neat to have it included. It always blows me away how detailed you draw him - SO many scales. I do have a question! His footpaws have those pads on them but his hands don't. Are the pads on his feet a tougher type of skin?
Hello there!
When I was doing the "full body" versions of the front and rear view, I was pretty sure that YOU would appreciate the feet! ^^ It's a FULL body again... and (I admit I've done this for the paw/feet lovers) a foot detail, as well.
But hey, his feet are special... especially the plates and the pads. And it was important to draw it in detail!
So, thanks very much!!!
The fingers have small pads on top of them... this is also some protection and he can PUNCH nice holes into anything! XD
The feet pads are indeed tougher and harder, yes.

I think I speak for all paw-lovers and pawsexuals in saying thanks for thinking of us! ^_^
Makes sense - and aye, noticed the plating on the tops of his hands. Do the pads on his feet diminish feeling any, or just add toughness. Very nice design to the pad layout - it's unique enough that if you only showed me the footpaw, I could tell it was Reptile instantly. :)

Yes, this is the first traditional reference sheet.
Well... to be true... all the artworks are "references", somehow!!! XD
BUT a true "character sheet"... ya know... with colour pads... and info... and typical "stances" or back/front views... I have never done this before.
The first real sheet I have done was THIS here:
http://www.reptile-universum.de/rep.....eptile2009.jpg
And then we had this one:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3279499/
See, I started doing sheets in 2009... and THIS here is the very first traditional one.
Oh, and there's much more than meets the eye!
NEW design:
1) Eye brow scale (yeah)
2) Tail armor - seperate plates
3) Chest/shoulder armor - leather belt and metal pads

quite complete reference sheet there, even detailing the hands palms and bottom of the tail :o
this looks good, i am still not used to the new eyebrows but everything else looks great ! nice new light armor too
is it intentional that the end of the tail has a slightly different color ?

Hello, thanks a lot for the comment!
Yeah, the detail shots are important because lots of people didn't draw the hands right... they added one more finger (like humans have) and that is wrong.
The eye brow scales will be less blue in time... I am still experimenting with it. But I keep the thick, horn version!
HA!!!
YOU did spot the special "easter egg" here!!!??
Yes, the tip of the tail has a different colour... it's Reptile's "sweet spot"... he loves the tip of his tail so much. XD
AND it just changed colour... somehow...
^^"

Hehehe... ja, ja... zu viel STNG geschaut! XD
Aber es stimmt schon... er hat diesen (eigentlich ist das sein echter Vorname) Namen schon etwas länger... doch nun ist es auch auf dem Character Sheet drauf!!!
Nom nom geht immer!! XD
Ja, es ist fies wam.... :/

Danke!

Yesss..... the other version is not GONE or CRAP! ^^ And it's not for the trash can, either... I still keep it. After all, Reptile has so many different armor types - depending on the situation.
AND YESSS, you spotted it!!! YOU did spot the special "easter egg" here!!

They are both really awesome in their own way I think, and certainly not in any way "crap". The digital version I like because it is so smooth and soft. Making it, I don't know, easy to look at? As there is less to focus on I think.
While this traditional version is awesome just because of the great details that you almost have to explore and also the more old school feeling to it. As well as your trademark hand drawn scales of course.
I thought it felt like a new addition! I was not certain when I first saw it in the shot on the left if it were a new thing or not, then I looked at the shot in the middle and saw it were the same.
And maybe he sheds his scales there at the tip more often(if he actually does that) so it is more colourful and sensitive there?

As I mentioned before, the work itself ended up quiet amazing and complete for the reference´s role : D
Each time I saw Reptile, more I remeber back then when I started to know him. This evolution and changes of time is a nice feeling when you know a character for that long, is like if the character itself is growing with you and changing too.
The drawing in general is great as always, a good reference with the front and back side, and adding those little zooms of his hand, tail, foot and eye is quiet sufficient for the purpose. As for the pose sample for a good presentation or introduction of Reptile itself, nice one ; )
It would have been nice to see that armor on him but is ok though. And I know I´m more demanding with this XD but facial expressions!!! It would be awesome and more lively to see at least three facials expressions, like one of surprise, anger and pleased, three contrasting expressions to see how his face´s muscles works on each one ; ) consider it oneday man.
An amazing work here, and another fav from me ^ ^

Thanks very much for the comment, my friend!
Yeah... we both grew up with Reptile and how he's changed over time.
^_^"
I'm glad you like the sheet.
I do agree about the facial expressions idea... though I don't like these "severed head with expressions" drawings so much.
I rather prefer people to check out my comics.
There's enough expression.
xD
Maybe I can do an expression sheet someday.

Well I understand you completely. The same is with my music. Not always I am happy with a piece. But since I know you... to me you always make fantástic art. You know I am not a big fan of sexy guys... but this version have wonderfull details... (I hope to see Valeris again with details also)
It is completely hand drawn with pencils, ink, markers and acrylics.
Only the text and symbols are digital, of course.
But this is pure traditional media on real paper... just like this here, which is 100% traditional:
