optimus was the toughest. Getting a face to match Peter's voice is hard.
I finally settled on a ww2 soldier with hair that kinda looks like prime's helmet. (Though that haircut kinda makes him all wolveriney)

That is very true in an RP using synthetic cyborg bodies the Bots had to upload into for a mission; my writing cohort and I found finding the right face for Optimus was tough. Matching Peter Cullen's voice and one that had a strong yet sad 'dignified aged' face was tough.

He always kinda struck me as a Sam Elliot.
