~*Click Here to See More Rufus!*~
Meet Captain Alfred Ruthorford Albatres. Once a decorated soldier of Dahl, now with no memory of his past, living his life alone in the decrepit wasteland of the dry seas.
He was married, once, to a beautiful wife named Elise. She, too, was a soldier of Dahl, but assigned to a different platoon. Whilst Alfred led a small troop on Pandora, Elise was Dahl's secret weapon. An assassin who could kill anyone with the greatest of ease. Alfred himself was a fantastic shot, capable of handling a Jakobs sniper rifle like no other.
Tragedy befell the Albatres household, however, when Alfred's commanding officer never returned from Pandora's moon, Elpis, leaving him, his troops, and loyal pet dog Rufus behind in the blistering heat of the dry seas. When rations were depleted, many of the troops died from heat exhaustion, starvation, or thirst. Alfred tried to keep morale up, he got to the point where he could barely support himself and his pet, and feared that they would succumb to the harsh environment themselves.
Just as all seemed lost, however, Hyperion scouts located the struggling Dahl soldiers and rescued them, taking them to the Helios base located on Elpis. Alfred, Rufus, and the rest of his surviving troops were fed, bathed, and given temporary resting quarters until they could find transportation back to their own homes.
But fate had decided to play a cruel card. When the CEO of Hyperion recieved word on who these soldiers worked for, he immediately ordered them all to be subjects for Slag Experimentation. What had become the haven that saved them from starvation was now a prison for the rescued soldiers. Alfred and Rufus were the last to be experimented on, the head of the team behind his experimentation suggested experimenting on both of them at the same time.
Alfred and Rufus endured hours, days, weeks, and months of horrible painful experiments using the runoff of Pandora's natural resource Eridium. The final day of experimentation yielded the best results yet; an ungodly fusion of both lifeforms, man and animal. Alfred still had his human thoughts and emotions, while also maintaining the instincts and mannerisms of Rufus.
As a cruel practical joke, the experimentation team placed Rufus's old collar around Alfred's neck and welded the buckle shut, rendering it irremovable.
He hated his new form. He was ugly, a monstrous creature who deserved to die if for nother reason than to end his misery. Hyperion would have been happy to oblige, but a high ranking official gave the order to wipe Alfred's memory instead, suggesting that implanting memories of a new life would be more humane than just killing him outright. Hyperion reluctantly agreed, and Alfred's memory was completely erased; artificial memories were placed in his mind, and anything about his past life, including his wife Elise, were completely gone for good.
Alfred, now calling himself Rufus as that was the name on his collar tag, was sent on a shuttle back to Pandora where Hyperion found him. He set up shop in a little abandoned town known as Oasis, living in the hull of a giant "sunken" ship that loomed over the city. As time passed, he became adventurous and even built his own hovering Sandskiff to explore the dry seas. He encountered many enemies and monsters, which have managed to injure Rufus so severely, he's required mechanical prosthetic replacements, which he has also built himself.
He is now a little bit of a Frankenstein's Monster, with parts from animal, man, and machine built into him. He bothers no one, lives on his own, and enjoys his life just as he imagined he always has.
Several months passed before a Dahl assassin was sent to kill him for his associations with Hyperion. He easily outsmarted her and grabbed the upper hand with his sniper rifle and quick thinking. He didn't kill her, but instead took her in his home. She, too, suffered a traumatizing event that managed to erase her memory. Rufus felt as though he could relate, as he thinks he's lost some of his memory too, despite the artificial ones taking up residence in his mind.
Whilst the two were bitter and salty towards each other at first, they slowly became friends over the following weeks. Though he may look like a freak of nature and science, the assassin grew to like him and felt as though she should have known him a long time ago.
....because she did.
So this is an awesome piece by Industrial! It features our Borderlands OCs, Rufus and Elise, after they've had time to get to know each other (again) and are enjoying the day by themselves. Maybe they're at a park, or in Oasis, or on a different planet! He sure seems happy to have caught that ball, though. What a confident grin. ;3
