fantastic 4 is not the worst movie ever, its just very mediocre, but what makes it stand out is all those little decisions made that make you question "what were they thinking?". its very apparent that this is the product of two different visions: one from the director and the other from the studio, and the second part is where you can tell the studios heavy hand. the drama behind this production seems like a more interesting story honestly.
the directors idea was to go for a more horror/monster movie vibe, and i reckon if follow thru, it would have been a more coherent movie. would it have a been a good "fantastic 4" movie? that i don't know. I have no issue in them trying to make the FF4 franchise into a gritty, dark version, but to to me as it feels like the characters lend themselves more to the camp territory. The "thing" lacks its humor, and his trademark catchphrase comes from his abusive brother, as he about to bully him. its just a simple quick thing, but it feels so odd. also , young Reed Richards uses the power of several Nintendo 64s to power an inter-dimensional machine. talk about playing with power .
at the end , this is a bland , boring, forgettable movie , just like the "Green Lantern". Remember "Green Lantern"? no? its ok. not many do.

Its really hard to do a fantastic 4 movie cause really the 4 characters outside of the early 60's tropes which they have fell out of long time ago, none of them really have any reason to stay together. I think that is why all have been horrible, but I still like the early 90's one the best.

Literally? Did he literally do that? I might have to go see the movie if so. Just for that scene.
Anyway, I heard the director was basically trying to turn F4 into Chronicle 2. So that and of course the other dramatic reasons had the studio stepping in. But honestly, every try Fox has had with F4 was just awful. Hopefully the rights will go back to Marvel after this.

I love this! Perfectly sums up the change to a catch phrase! XD
Deadpool looks good because it was actually a passion project (still a cash grab but it never would've happened if it wasn't for the love of the project) and this Fant4stic was just solely a cash grad and rushed into production for as little money as they could get away with just to keep the film rights!
They just Ok-ed the 1st complete script that hit their desk that didn't require a $200-million budget and then started backtracking the moment they realized they were making a $120-million sci-fi horror art-house fluff-piece in the same vain as Prometheus! It might've gotten some Critics and fans to love it but most would hate it because it'd not be the F4.
Basically FOX were the wealthy couple that hired a painter to paint their house thinking they were going to get a master piece their yuppy friends would love not realizing they didn't hire a traditional Renaissance artistic they actually hire HR Giger!!! And are now trying to paint Cherubs and Cupids over all the disembodied technorganic penises and vaginas!

The issue I had with Fantastic Four was its GREAT POTENTIAL. The director had also made Chronicle, which is one of my all time favourite movies because of the depth and personality tension inbetween the characters. This movie started out with such a good base - it was talking legit science without boring anyone, it didn't feel too slow or too fast - and then when it got bad, it got REALLY bad.
I was also really confused about intended age of viewers. 11 years and up, which fits the ending and how they loudly and obnoxiously come up with a solution to deal with the villain - but then mid-movie they literally have people exploding?

My only true gripe was that Human Torch was Black, Ben Grimm Aka The Thing was wearing no pants and the whole concept of them getting their powers was lame as hell. no rocket ship--- No Cosmic rays!!! no Reed Richards and Sue love interest. there was NO relations what so ever in the Comic except the Character's design (Except Human Torch being Black)
You're going to do a Movie of the First Family--- The Fantastic Four!!! read the damn Comic first!!!

Ultimate universe was more upbeat than this and they didn't even go as dark as this... And, Reed went nuts in the Ultimate universe, killed his whole family, and tried on multiple occasions to eradicate the human race and replace them with artificially evolved super-humans that worship him...
