That's what makes it incredible for the time.
You see, back then, fwd was considered luxury. This was so far ahead of it's time.
-Longitudinal mount 425ci v8
-Limited slip dif
-EQUAL LENGTH AXLES
-Double wish-bone suspension
-Dual shocks
-power steering
-and lets not forget the fact it won 1st place at pikes peak in 1966, 1st in US car and driver, 3rd in europe.

Transverse FWD sucks, flat out. The only FWD cars I'd be interested in are this, the second-generation Acura Legend, and the similar-era Acura Vigor as they have transverse FWD layouts. The weight distribution is key. The equal-length axles will mitigate torque steer(which is why I love the fact my GT-Four has them) which is awesome.
Still, running that beast up Pike's Peak would have been insane. I live there and have a cousin that has run the Hill Climb a few years in a turbocharged BMW E30... his stories and video are as fantastic as they are scary. Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKyYcWamJCk
Still, major congratulations at getting your paws on one of these. I'll bet it's sweet!

My friend, Tiltlongtail has one, albeit rusty. It's in the top left corner of this pic: http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b.....ps7rm5umzp.jpg
More momentum oversteer than understeer. Keep in mind that not only the drivetrain was ahead of its time, but so was the wishbone suspension and near 50/50 weight distribution. I drive this around hard and I can push it as hard as I can, but so long as I keep a good racing line the Toronado stays neutral in handling. Unless its a less grippy high-speed corner; In which case, you see lift off oversteer.
These reasons as well as many others are why the Toronado Claimed its Fame at Pikes Peak international hill climb.
