The Arcanist is a master in utilizing status effects. They can inflict many status effects (the exceptions being Control, Halt, and Possess) on enemies, with several being at a higher degree of intensity than other classes. The Arcanist can inflict status effects even to enemies that might normally be immune to them. Additionally, they can remove any sort of buffs applied to the enemy. Arcanists can wield maces in addition to staves.

The concept of this class is taken from Etrian Odyssey, which also featured an Arcanist class that focused on status effects. You should blame them, ha!
I'm not sure if I have a class that becomes weaker as the battle progresses, even on my 'to do' list. It's certainly something to consider!
