I could explain part of the pranking and bullying mindset: a thirst for power. Power over the person being pranked, "freedom" to do what they want to whoever they want, especially those who are seen by the bullies as better, worse, or somehow different in some way. It's a reaction to fear of the unknown or dread-inspiring: to belittle it and to try to overcome it. While such instincts are perfectly natural and can protect people against dangers, these same instincts are expressed through bullying in a socially destructive manner.
Knowing why something is the way it is is the first step to being able to deal with it.
Or you could just turn into a werecat and give 'em what for that way. Two ways, same goal.
