While the major focus this cycle was on the face, I did actually get a chance to work out some changes to the neck! I'm really quite happy with them, but the deformation remains about as tricky as ever. But, as long as I adjust the joints just right, it can look quite a bit nicer. Much better defined.
One of the more interesting alternate facial features I don't see as commonly is lips. Or rather, big full lips. Generally the approach I've seen taken is to only make the front bit of the lower lips like a human lower lip, or at least exaggerated them in comparison to the rest of the lips. I gave that a shot, by adding a few more edgeloops and puffing it up a bit. I think I rather like it! Surprisingly, it doesn't really clip and plus it helps cover the gap in the lips that snuck in during all those muzzle changes.
Speaking of muzzle changes, I made a few more topological changes to the muzzle, accompanied by alterations in my wire weight painting schemes. I decided not to do a wireframe this time, but rather several comparisons. The change alters the flow of the cheeks to wrap around the face and join up the top of the flews, more in line with how equivalent edgeflows seem to work on human face models. I've tried it before, but for some reason I'm much happier with the results this time! I think it's really a credit to the difference in the improved wire weight paints.
The comparisons here consist of two simple facial expressions in each column. The rows distinguish the 3 figures in comparison. The first row is the same model as last week. The 2nd row is the this week's revision, with normal lips. The 3rd row is also this week's revision, but with the new fuller bottom lip.
I've also continued to experiment with her eye-shadow and added a red lip shader to emphasize the lips a bit. I feel like red is the most appropriate accent choice to fit my themes, even if the eye shadow is too heavy because I can't apply it lightly without texture maps. But, I really like the orange nail polish color, too. I'm thinking maybe I can get away with the nails being orange if the hair is also orange. Barring that, it will probably end up being blonde.
