I figured I'd show you guys how I do the art thing, so I made this little process chart...thing or whatever of this picture http://www.furaffinity.net/view/17378569/ X)
If anyone is interested in me making these, maybe I'll make a proper tutorial one day XD
1. Sketch: First I sketch up a body. Normally I would use constructive lines, but since I started my art career drawing ferals, I didn't need to use them much, I just used a circle for a guide to draw the head. Sometimes, I'd wait a few days before I start inking a sketch to get a fresh look on the drawing because I usually make a lot of errors during this phase, especially if I sketched it in under 25 minutes. Sometimes, I draw about 3 or 4 (or more) sketches on top of each other depending on how detailed I want the final drawing to look, In this case, I didn't have to sketch over my first sketch.
2. Lines: I make a separate layer over the sketch, dim down the opacity of the sketch layer to about 25% and use a sharp, hard, tapered brush to "trace" over my sketch. I say "trace" because I don't ink over my sketches line for line, I sort of correct most of the errors I made in said sketch. In this case, I changed the eyes, muzzle, and left ear a bit.
3. Flats: I make a separate layer under the line art, create a layer mask and a clipping mask and then throw down some color on top of the lines. I use multiple layers in this stage, to separate different colors and areas just in case I mess up the markings.
4. Shading and Highlights: I make another layer and set up a clipping mask over the flat colors, and pick a corner where the light source is, in this case its the top right-handish corner of the fox. I use a watercolor brush for the softer shadows and highlights and a harder brush for the hard shadows and bounce highlights, then I play with the opacity until it looks good. Whats great about Manga Studio is that I can use the same watercolor brush to paint and blend at the same time, sort of like SAI's watercolor brush. I also use the blend brush if I want some areas to be more subtle. Depending on my mood, I use multiple layers for this step as well for depth.
Hope this sort of give you an idea on how I draw digitally!!
Will scrap later.
