One of my 3 obts (short for orange baboon tarantula, also short for orange bitey thing in the hobby, aka usambara tarantula) with a cricket. They're about 1 1/2" at this point. I got them last month from another hobbyist from my favorite insect community, insectgeeks.com. I also got a free itty bitty curly hair tarantula from them, which I'll post a photo of later on. I've bombarded your inboxes enough for now ;)

D: Yikes! 0.1?
I'd say feed her less often, that's when mine come out - to hunt or look for water. Do you handle yours? I'm still pondering whether or not to start trying with... that. Would rather not have a numb and blackened wound if I can help it... but gosh-darn they're so cute, and I bet their legs tickle.
Mine seem to like climbing all over their tank, and especially like to eat their crickets outside the burrow. I have a photo of one that had two crickets stuck to the side of the tank and dragged them all over it before deciding on a spot to stick em.

oh i figured for sure that decimal system would be in use on your bug boards
males.females.unknown half of the critters i buy at shows snakes or inverts don't say male/female but 1.0/0.1
i would not recommend it, they are sooo fast and among Ts they are reported to have a poain/ venom potency on the high end, the orange is not suppose to be attractive, it's a warning!
maybe the once a year that i change the cage out i use the box in a box in a box technique, same thing with my cobalt and malaysian giant centipede, who also likes to wait around motionless (not in the flowerpot hide like the most of the other inverts, but tunneled under it until there's food and then like a freight train around the whole enclosure until it's sure they are all gone
don't know why i waited so long to get a 'pede
once at a show i saw an emperor scorp juvenile trying to stuff 4 crickets into it's face at once, it was like "you can't fill the voids in your life with food little guy"

Oh yes I'm definitely aware of the dangers, I know of several other owners which say theirs grew to be slow and docile as a pink toe, so I know it's at least possible to have a handle-able obt! I am new to owning tarantulas and am not yet as familiar with the 'lingo' as I am with cockroaches. :)
You should really post photos of your inverts!! <3

yes, i will eventually there's not enough on here for sure
this is actually my best friend's account that i use more than she does, she is too modest to say
but she is the owner of the the my little pony trading post, satinslipper
as a pony person maybe you are familiar, i don't know
i will be moving exclusively over to my own account next year when i have it set the way i want
anyway back on track, for a group that claims to love all creatures great and small the small are certainly overlooked here
and if commented on at all, ridiculed as icky
i do find it interesting how you can love prey items and then equally love the destroyers of those prey items though
i find that most people would choose one side with which to sympathize

Oh! Wow, I was on that board... sometime in the 90's I believe XD I tried to re-apply a few years back but I never got a confirmation. Ah well, I loved that forum and most of the people in it, but the drama was far too much for me at the time, sadly. :(
I am a lover of nature and all things crawly... I understand that the preds need to eat, too and I don't think I'd mind feeding a roach or rat to a pred, though I've had or have both as pets. I suppose as long as it's not something rare or that I'm already attached to, it doesn't bother me :) What frustrates me, though, are people who get a pet solely for the "bad-assery" of it or because they get their kicks by bragging to their friends about the "badass" pet they have without actually taking proper care of it or showing it the respect it deserves.

not only for the cool factor, i got my first 4 Ts at the same reptile show nearly 5 years ago and all are still kickin'
but yes, i am attracted to the more ferocious or colorful species, i even ask vendors at shows for animals that are too pissy to be sold to typical buyers
i've never had a rose hair, but usambara, cobalt, birdeater, pokey yeah, i suppose i would have a gooty right now if i didn't have rent to pay
kinda the same thing with herps as well, always something extreme (aggressive, colorful, massive, rare) someday i would even like to own venomous (northern copperhead, rhino viper, albino western diamondback)
even considering moving to the carolinas just to have the chance to keep such things without the state of florida overlords on my back
but yes, they are not just a gimmick the way you see inverts being treated say on youtube vids to me either, more of like a living tapestry to look at
i don't even handle my inverts unless it's needed, more out of concern i might drop them, than them biting me
as for the mlptp, depending on when you were attempting to get back on it may have been in transition to its current incarnation when the original owner just kind of abandoned it and my friend took over the reigns, http://www.mlptp.net/ is probably something different to what you remember
i should probably visit that site more myself, she makes me the mascot and i now i barely ever go there, some mascot i am

Wow, I'm not sure how well I'd do with something potentially deadly, but as far as reptiles go, I love love LOVE snakes, and my favorites are mostly pythons, ranging from the common ball to the feisty and beautiful black-lipped d'alberts. Much love for that rainbowy sheen, like the more popular rainbow boa. Youtube pisses me right off when it comes to animals, I try not to look at most of them. Will have to check out the TP now, I do miss being involved in a pony community, despite the frequent girly-dramas that are inevitable at them.
are you in a housing situation that doesn't allow you snakes? (i can't even keep up with what state you are in following your posts, you're such a tumbleweed i'll be rolling over to 30 in 6 weeks and have been anchored in central florida my whole life)
but i could relate, i looked everywhere and just lucked into a private owner who graciously didn't mind caged legal exotics so long as i didn't have any conventional free roaming/carpet messing pets
when and if you do get into snakes i would shy away from a ball python, they are known to be very finicky eaters (especially the babies) and will literally refuse to eat until they are dead, live/thawed/fresh killed doesn't matter some of them just won't play the captive game
i only have one myself atm, and he is just a big fat old normal non-morph that luckily takes thawed (which was the biggest selling point to me)
i wanted to have a snake i could just hold and be casual with since my pride and joy is an 8 1/2 foot dumeril's boa
i love her, but she is so powerful she requires all your attention when handling
some kind of of colubrid may be a heartier scaley, like a leucistic texas rat snake
they are cheap, widely available and quite striking to look at (just avoid the bug-eyed ones since they tend to have other hidden health issues)
and i can't explain why i am drawn to danger/power, i just have always been that way inclined, adventure, motorcycles, firearms, volatile animals
i even watch discovery, animal planet, TLC and personally witness the risk close-up by those that have gambled and lost through the scars, permanent joint pain and missing fingers of hot herp dealers at shows, yet still i must persist
rhino vipers in particular are imo the prettiest snakes in nature and despite the almost certain death a mistake would bring, the risk is my own
given that an error in judgment on a motorcycle or with a firearm is just as serious, its something i already accept
switching gears, there are a number of other FA users on the TP regularly, artist/non-artist alike, and enough art submitted overall to warrant a special section just for it
my friend SS and her moderator crew don't tolerate personal attacks on the board so all it takes is a notification of such a rule violation and action would be taken
so feel free to jump in over there whenever you like

Unfortunately I'm not really allowed any more pets right now, particularly snakes... but I plan on having a talk with the landlady when possible about the pet arrangement. She seems pretty lenient thus far; I have 10 species of cockroach, the tarantulas, a fishing spider, wolf spider, leatherleaf slugs, giant african millipedes, a tiger salamander, two toads, two giant water bugs, among dozens of other little critters inhabiting our bathroom closet at the mo (warmest area of the house). On my want-list is some sort of large-ish python, a giant blue centipede, several other tarantulas, some species of stick bugs and mantids and yet more roaches. I can't really put my finger on what attracts me to certain animals, it can be their coloration, their nature, or just anything... I'm as fascinated by the big, exciting ones as I am the littlest cockroach. I've yacked your ear off long enough though XD When you make that new account, let me know and I'll watch in hopes for some fun critter photos :)
