There is a first time for everything. This is the first custom paint I have done. It is pastels and acrylic. The model was quite small and opened my eye to the fact that I need some smaller detail brushes. This guy was a commission.

I definitely hope to see progress pics! I'm not great with appy coloring yet but I'm working on it when I can! You're making me wanna start posting shots of some of the models I've painted in the past and recently LOL I actually just finished an adorable little Parrs Dream Doll resin--I wanted black with lots of chrome and a badger face and I swear she KNOWS she's cute. XD I have another copy of that resin that I snagged cheap and am still trying to decide just how to paint her whenenver I finally get around to it.
I need to go finish some stablemates as well, actually...lol

Im very new to custom breyers but im loving it. Ive got two personal projects and a resculpt planned currently. The appaloosa is on a stone model. Ive got a unicorn planned on a breyer but I can figure out how to make the effect im looking for...I need a black that looks purple, blue and green when natural light hits it. Let me know if you have any suggestions, I had found a paint that would have been close but the lady who used it refused to tell me what it was. The resculpt is on a no-brand model but its going to be a Dyansty horse with a sculpted removable saddle.
Hmm...you could try getting some interference blue to mix with the black, which would give you that blue-black sheen with a hint of purple...not sure how much green you'd really see from it (they MIGHT make interference green, too...i know i've seen blue and violet versions--basically it's like an iridescent pearly color that at a glance looks white as paint, but when it dries you get that cool blue/etc sheen---i think some folks use the blue to do the 'glint' in the eyes of model horses/etc to make them more realistic)
The brand of paints I'm addicted to is Jo Sonja acrylic gouache. Best way to describe it is it's a smooth acrylic paint that you can thin down and layer like a watercolor if wanted. Got to use it in college back in the day and have loved it ever since. I won't touch any other brand if I can avoid it, LOL! (Though Golden brand paints are also super nice--i really like their clear glazes.)
You could also look into mixing powdered pigments into the black. I know places like Hobby Lobby and Michaels sell them....aaaaah poop i can't think of what the ones I like are called XD I'll have to dig them out and see. PearlEX? That sounds right...I use their gold powdered pigment when i wanna paint an Akhal Teke lol
