Pie Bites: Why I Don't Mind Faving Without Commenting
I have a really hard time expressing my thoughts sometimes. I know it may not seem like it since I like NEVER SHUT UP but sometimes I just look at something and get a little mental HAPPY FACE because it presses some button but I can't really write a comment about it that doesn't sound lame ass or forced.
There are some artists who apparently get pissed off if a lot of people fave and then don't comment, and I also understand their side of things. They was feedback so they can improve sometimes, and sometimes it's just nice to get a compliment when you need a little ego boost.
Buuuut just to let you know you don't have to worry about me minding if you fave and don't comment. I understand how it can be.

out of my, out of my, head. GET OUTTA MY HEAD! out of my, out of my, head...
Dammit, now that song is back in my head again. But at least pie can't fit in there now!
I totally agree with the sentiment, sometimes a comment just doesn't come naturally and when you force it, you sound lame. For someone to get pissy over that, just seems overbearing. I get disappointed when people fav but don't comment but I certainly don't hold it against them.
I have to wonder if the fandom's too biggest pet peeves, lame comments and a lack of comments, are related. I'm sure lots of lame comments are left in the name of not pissing off an artist by not commenting and a lot faves go un-commented for fear of being yelled at for being lame.
"Hot damn I'd like to bounce a quarter off those tits! :D" is freaking epic by the way.

I hate the RP comments. X3 And then... if you comment back, they go "Ooh! Instant RP session!" and they RP more!
The comments I hate the most are "Cool" or "Neat" after spending 30 hours on a piece of art. D:
I'm one of those artists that looooooves comments. They're so much fun, so I'll even except the one-worded comments, but I get so happy when I get an intelligent comment. <3

If you can only come up with one-liners, 'tis a waste of a comment. It's just like people either don't care or only know two or three words of the English language.
The way I comment is by just writing up the first thing I think when I see the art. If I think it's offensive, I don't post it. Simple
*Clears throat*
Sorry for my rant

That explains my ig'nance. I rarely hit galleries unless I get a specific link to someone's piece and start hopping through their art and favorites.
Because some artists get upset when their fanart gets more attention than their original stuff, and will get like an assload of faves but not too many comments.
Can understand it a bit more from that perspective, but it's still a little odd to me. Why not just toss up a little "critique welcome" or "I'd like input" or "tell me how hard you're fapping to this"?

Nothin' quite like flamin' ovaries. Internal fried eggs.
This reminds me.. I ran into someone on here once that got SUPER PISSED OFF if you faved or commented on their submissions. Of course I had to comment on that. :3 They eventually accused me of trying to start fights with them or something. I thought it was funny. Actually, I think that's happened twice...

Yeah, there's people that post to this COMMUNITY SITE that get super pissed off if you comment or fave. And they'll have some "warning" that says "DO NOT COMMENT OR FAVE". But yeah this one chick, I wrote something like, "Awww.. but I really REALLY like this picture of this cat...what to do, what to do..." Then she replied with "Commission one for yourself, then" and I think I said, "I'll draw my own, kthx" Then I asked her why she's on a community site if she hates the community parts, and she laid me out on my shout page and accused me of harassment.
This little...non-issue has always amused me. : )
From my own POV, I've always treated the fav thing as an indirect way of saying "I like this piece" on it's own. Most times, if I have no further feedback that's useful or constructive, I'm not usually inclined to say anything. Plus, being that I'm kind of a dick, whenever I see someone make a point of saying "DON'T FAV UNLESS YOU PLAN TO COMMENT", I'm guarenteed not to comment...or fav...or watch. They can get their ass pats elsewhere. ; )

Your last panel gave me a very bad idea.
Anyway I don't usually comment, I've had too much drama for leaving one simple comment...
But since you're a friendly lovable person I like commenting your stuff on the occasion.
If furries weren't so effing HOSTILE maybe they'd get more comments and feedback.

"Wow I really like this piece what a great texture it just seems like this is a little bit off an-"
"FUCK YOU, HOW DARE YOU CRITIQUE MY WORK! I WILL EAT YOUR LIVER AT NIGHT!!!!"
True Story:
"Haha no I'm not <insert what they are asking people in a journal>, Because, <insert reasoning why and a meaningful thought behind it>"
"WHAT, WHAT, YOU CAN'T DO THAT, THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MY JOURNAL, BY THE WAY I DON'T LIKE YOUR UGLY FACE COMMENTING ME SO GET OUT!"
"Okay, have fun with a lost watch"

*laughs and dances around* Weak minded people! Shoofa always has the ability to speak'a da mind! I seriously forget the existence of the fav button most of the time. I'm pretty sure I have more comments then favs. ... but that isn't surprising.
It does smack a bit of "Well, if they don't want favs w/o comment, then I won't fav." That normally hits 'um where they hurt. Then they do the classic "PEOPLE LIKE MY PORN, BUT THEY DON'T LIKE MY EMO STUFF!" journal. Then they leave the fandom. Then we have one less whiny bitch!

Main reason why I got a second account here, I will put up things obviously some don't give a shit about but still pretty decent, then go buy a really popular community based game that requires little skill to play, earn many friends who are furries, draw their characters, offer it to those who pass by, and PROFIT! I like fan art and drawing it, but sometimes I feel better earning my popularity through general interest.
Now, when someone faves my stuff I get a sense of satisfaction out of it, but with a comment, it's just icing on the cake. But, sometimes I run on asshat mode and politely say, "Thank you for the favorite, comments appreciated."
Now for your icing, I live the Disney esquire in the first pic, somehow, it reminds me of dopey.

I like getting comments even more than +favs... but I'll admit that I +fav way more than I comment for pretty much the exact reason you express in your comic.
I hate just writing: "That's so cute!" or "Wow. This is really awesome." or whatever... it seems so insincere, even though its not. D:

I know where you're coming from; sometimes it's hard to put in words why you fave something, especially if there are already n-teen comments where people are saying the same things...
But I also admit to being one of the people who would really like to see comments from people who fave stuff. "Okay, so you obviously liked something about that... but what? Was it the plot, the character, the pr0n, the writing, my carefree use of commas or what? I wanna know!"

Yeah, I know that feeling. On a site like FA where there's so much crap, it's nice to just fav some good-looking stuff without having to analyze everything.
What bugs me, though, is when people delete their pics after I fav them. Great, now I've got a big hole in my favorites list YOU HEARTLESS JERK. BAAAWWW!

I don't know if you've since found out different, but one can remove faves that were deleted by the submitter: (Control Panel)-(Management-Favorites), then hit the 'Remove' link that appears under each thumbnail.
The only buggy part is that if you've removed one of these several pages into your favorites, FA takes you back to the first page. I found that out when I cleaned out all the deleted submissions from my faves not too long ago.
(On-topic:) I like comments as much as anyone else, but I'm not bothered by +fav w/o comment. I think I'll edit my profile to mention that.

Hey a fave is a fave love it and move on not every one has to comment. That's what I honestly believe. It's a compliment that someone faves it. It's rare for me to see em so I love every fave that comes my way so don't feel angry because you can improve without someone's comment.
So I agree 100% <3

I have this very same problem, though I'm trying to change my evil ways.
But now I tend to go on a rambling tour of the idiocy network rolling round and round the inside of my otherwise empty skull and make these looooooong draaaaaaawn-oooooout comments that people don't wanna reeeeeead because they're booooorign and stuuuuupid and goddammit why am I stretching out the words?

I always seem to type I love it, its cute or something,
even if I want to say "PENIS! or TITS! or SHINY DESU DESU DESU"
As pretty much a lot of my comments would just that, just because things draw
my attention and then I can't focus too much @_@ I'd blame the ADD but everyone
has that now supposedly, even if they don't xD
Ramble ramble I like this pic.

I feel the same way...except the last panel.
I've seen yiff comments, rp comments and general things...and most of them are things I'm thinking of. I don't like repeating what others say...
also, I just feel that what i say might just not be up to the person's 'standards'...which is, like, 90% of the time that I don't comment.
...so yeah...faved for ASSOCIATION!

I bow to your insight.
I some times just go to a page and leave a comment telling them how much I love the picture... proof read hit submit... and don't fav it. Lol Sometimes leaveing a comment means you will never see that picture again because its not in your favorites gallery. Or you get the reply sometime later and your like.
"What picture is that one? I don't remember that one." *click* OHHHHHHH!!! I was sure I faved that one!

Back when I first joined deviantART, I would, more often than not, comment without faving. Over time it just gets harder to come up with something to say, if only because you've already seen a ton of awesome art and your standards start slipping ... upwards. Of course, I tend to fave a lot less than I did in those days for the same reason, but that's another story.
I can see where the "Comment before you fave" people are coming from, too, though. If you showed off something you drew IRL, all of the reactions would involve people saying things. Some of them useful, some of them interesting, some of them just "hey that's neat," but it's still what we as humans have come to expect from living in the real world (for those of us who still do or at least remember what it was like, anyway ). Comments are more... for lack of a better word, tangible than a bunch of identical alerts that just pile up and, once removed, get reduced to a number that's dwarfed by everything else on the page.
Ultimately, though, after getting page after page of useless comments, I think I'd sooner the people with nothing interesting to say just click "Add to Favorites" and get on with their lives. I can learn to love a number. I think.

Hokay, just found your gallery today and really need to give it a proper look through later, especially as these little comics seem to mirror my own sentiments quite closely. Hell, I can't even count the amount of times I've ended up saying nothing, in lieu of just making some inappropriate, braindead comment about boobs.
Also, I lol'd at the last panel. :3

Been there, done that That's exactly how I feel sometimes. Too many times.
It's the same effect when I feel I have to reply to a comment, and not even a week later the reply makes me think "God, what kind of stupid did I put in my cereal that morning?!" XD (which is why I don't mind not getting replies when I comment on stuff.)

Lame, forced, or just plain standard of a comment. I can't say how many time's I've commented with "Nice!" or "Good job!" when the fave clearly means that. If those artists who do get pissed with faving with no commenting and demand comments that help them improve, why don't they just ask for critique instead?
