And with a very menacing face. I can definitely picture 1970's mobsters cruising around in a black Lincoln like this one, maybe stuffing a few bodies in the trunk to dump in the harbor.
And still, I have a soft spot for these old boats. When I was a kid there were still a lot of the old big boxy 80's cars around, and the straight lines and squared off corners held this odd appeal to me. I would draw them frequently when I was bored, and I still vividly remember my grandmother's gray Pontiac with the wood grain and the red and white lights on the inside of the door. And those seats that felt like recliners. I used to fantasize about outrunning giant monsters in it.
Now cars like this are so rare its a real treat for me to see one. New cars are so bland and uninteresting I often have a hard time telling them apart. But this one I recognized instantly for what it was, and it reminded me that Lincoln used to be a highly sought after brand before it started copying Lexus, and tried to be something its not. Sure this one may have the pickup of a tractor, a suspension based on water beds, and be the size of a small aircraft carrier, but its still a Lincoln! Not an Audi or a BMW or a Mercedes or whatever else they're trying to copy these days.
Also, is it just me or do those headlights remind you of a certain robot from "Futurama"?

I love old Boats. The looks of e'm and in my opinion they are like the best riding cars for just cruising around. My brother had a 80's (Cant remember when exactly it was made) Cadillac, that we nick-named the tank. It had a V8 that was a gas guzzler (like 9-13 mpg). And of course It was big XD
I can only wonder is she still runs, and if so, it must be nice to just be able to jump in and cruise around. Cars these days have no identity to them anymore as they look too much like one another. You think you're looking at a mid 2000's town car but upon a closer look its a Kia! I'm not kidding, there's a Kia Optima? I think that looks like a compact Lincoln Town car!
I still remember the 73 Monte Carlo my mom had back when I was a cub - metallic brown with a white top, white inerior, and the 454 V8 that to roared like a beast upon acceleration (at least I thought it did at that age) sounding like a jet engine powering up for take off each time from a dead stop. It would thrill me to no avail..yea that was back when cars were cars and you knew what you were driving.
Whenever I'm out and about and come across one of those classic metallic beasts on the road with me, I can only think "Damn that guy is lucky to be driving that..." as I try to keep up and admire it for as long as I can.
As that certain robot would be saying right now..."Bite my shiny metal ass!" LOL

I know this one had plates and air in the tires. I neglected to look and see if the plates were still in date though. There's an identical one in better shape one car up, so I take it the owner really likes these cars. Lol oh really? Cadillacs are the only modern American luxury cars I can readily identify. I've mistaken many new Lincolns for cars of other brands. I also keep seeing Buicks and thinking they're Toyotas. Again, the modern ones
Haha, yeah. I've driven my dad's Nissan pickup and my mom's Subaru and they feel pretty much the same. Not only that but my Ford Taurus, which 10 years ago was the bland of the bland, feels more powerful than those two cars. Hell, our old minivan felt more agile!
LOL yeah

Well one thing I loved about my Newyorker is that it was still extraordinarily comfortable, but it was from that era of downsizing. So it was a bit more manageable than something from 10 years earlier. That car actually got the same gas mileage as my Taurus, 18 city, 22 highway. So I still had my luxury car, but it didn't bankrupt me to fill up ever week or so. My dad's Dodge Ram on the other hand ~cringes~
Ah.... the era of the land yacht dinosaurs! I was a teen in those disco crazy era of the 70's. My first car was a 1975 Pontiac Grand Prix... with a 400 2 barrel V-8 good for 10 mpg in the city and maybe 16 mpg on the highway.... going down a hill. It had a wood dash ( fake I think?) cloth bucket seats, console and an am-fm cassette deck. The hood stretched to the horizon from the driver's seat. It turned an rolled like the Queen Mary... but going 80 mph on the highway, you felt nothing. In a couple of years, it developed swiss cheese holes on the hood and the trunk area. At that time, gas was 75 cents to $1.25 a gallon. The grille was real chrome.... not plastic. Still ha fun with that boat!
Yeah, the first thing that really strikes me about cars like this is the length of the hood. Lol I've seen two-door Cadillacs from the 60's that I'd be willing to bet were longer than some small school buses. That rust must be a Pontiac thing, because I knew a guy that had three sitting in his yard and all of them had little holes rusted through in random places. Haha, one was a station wagon that I wanted so badly.
If this is a 77 thru 79 model, the last 3 years for these boats... the dimensions are as follows.
Length... 233.0 in (5,918 mm)
Width.... 1977: 80.0 in (2,032 mm)
1978–79: 79.9 in (2,029 mm)
Height... 1977: 55.2 in (1,402 mm)
1978–79: 55.4 in (1,407 mm)
Curb Weight.... 4,900–5,400 lb (2,200–2,400 kg)

I'm guessing Bender in that episode where he becomes a werecar or something? Well in that episode, he was based off the car from the film THE CAR that came out in 1977 and it was based on a lincoln.

I was thinking more along the lines of just one set of the double headlights. Thought they kinda resembled his eyes. Though I do remember that episode. Pretty cool that it was also based on a Lincoln. They're pretty intimidating cars to look at as it is, least the older ones.
