This one is rushed. Wasn't planning to do a third one but based on the info released at D23 on Zootopia, I got hyped. Its revealed they first met at an ice cream shop run by elephants. Nick was running a scam with a little fox kid who is his alleged adopted son. Lol. His victim was Judy and managed to trick her into buying the little fox kid a large 15$ popsicle that he plans to melt later on and re-freeze into a bunch of smaller popsicles he intends to re-sell. Cutest scam ever but Judy finds out about it and she was not pleased. To make matters worse, Judy was later assigned a missing person's case about a kidnapped otter and the only known suspect is none other than Nick. Can't wait to see the banter between them on that one.
Another thing that got me hyped was a pic of Judy in casual clothes during the panel with Goodwin. Too bad it only showed her from the shoulders up. I tried to put it in this fanart but didn't like how it turned out.
The third thing that got me really interested was how its revealed Nick and Judy have different opinions about life. Optimistic Judy believes "any animal can be anything they want to be" so she's a rabbit that wants to be a cop. Cynical Nick believes "you are who you are" meaning no animal can defy their nature. Never mind the cop story, that's what I'm gonna look forward to.
It resonates a lot with me because I've always wanted to be an animator but circumstances crushed my dreams and now I gotta work 9 hours a day for a non-feeling corporate machine that treats its employees as nothing more than numbers on a spread sheet.
I'm guessing Nick must've been at one point like Judy who had dreams of his own but had to give up on them due to circumstance. And then one day, their paths cross. I'm starting to imagine how he starts to develop a fondness for her. I mean, wouldn't you cherish someone that shows you how to hope again after you've lost it for so long? Goodwin says the script makes her cry and you shouldn't call it a buddy cop movie because it demeans the movie. I'm looking forward to it.

I was thinking that every time they go back to that elephant ice cream shop, it would remind them of when they first met. It was really... mean, I guess. I'm assuming the fox kid involved in the con was just acting but if it turns out he really was retarded thinking he was an elephant or really was an orphan, Nick's even more of an asshole than imagined.
Perhaps; even to this day there is a... complex relationship between gangs and street kids. At its worst it is pure exploitation but many in said gangs were street kids themselves and it is surprising how many band together to defend them. Right now this is mostly the case in India, but a number of classic stories set in England deal with this subject. (See Oliver Twist and the complex character of Fagin.) It is entirely possible that Nick was working on the premise that foxes have to stick together and\or better him than someone who didn't care.
The conflicting worldviews are interesting since they mirror our world's racism and\or prejudice but there, well there really ARE differences. The trailer itself takes a view of 'animals are animals.'
