The poster you see here was given to me by my wife, Tina, for Christmas 2014. She picked this one exclusively for how it was a very high contrast image of the character I love most from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Spike the Dragon.
This year, my wife, son, sister, and my sister's husband all came to BronyCon to support me as the team and I put on Coping with Disabilities Through Pony. They don't fancy the show all that much. However, for me, it meant the world to have them there.
When I met Cathy Weseluck, along with the other people I wanted to meet, my wife was with me. She was at my side while I unfurled this poster for Cathy to sign. Neither her, nor her colleague, had ever seen it before and really were impressed by it.
Having this poster signed by Cathy shows how much I know my Tina Bear loves me. Even though MLP: FiM may not be her thing she still is willing to support me wherever I can find joy, inspiration, and friends. More importantly she was there to support me in making a difference for those with special needs so that they may have a bright future ahead of them through our efforts.
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I'm grateful for all those who stand by me as I use it to further spread happiness where I otherwise may not be able to. BronyCon welcomed me and the team's efforts with open arms. The attendees at BronyCon are some of the nicest I've ever met, too. It's nice knowing I can be amongst caring people for 3 days out of the year where I'm otherwise neglected, or marginalized by those who do not know I am truly approachable and wish for companionship, inclusion, and an opportunity to make a difference despite going blind.
In sum, I thank you, Tina, for keeping me going despite all the trials and tribulations we've been through as a family. I know MLP may not be your thing, but allowing me to enjoy it and use it to make a difference means a lot. Thank you and I love you eternally.
Love,

How cool! You're right - the thick outlines and colors make this picture perfect for easy viewing. (: Otherwise the lack of outlines in pony could make it tricky to figure out where a character ends and the colorful backgrounds begin. It's really nice of her to help you out! Three days a year definitely isn't asking too much. :3
And they are a wonderful three days. Expensive, but worth it to feel like an actual human being with loads of potential instead of the stereotypical, by-the-book blind guy.
It's so odd discovering how discrimination and fear increase as one becomes further disabled / socially awkward. When I could still see about 20/200 out of my working eye, I didn't have too many issues with people. I also didn't need my white cane either.
Now that I see only two feet in front of my face in a fog-like haze, I apparently come off less intelligent and/or frightful. However, aside from being more self-confident and more educated, I'm not very different than what I was in regard to personality from when I could see 20 / 200.
All the more reason to try and help encourage folks to self-advocate while continuing to advocate for positive change where and however I can. :)
I'm always thankful for how well you've been to me over all these years, Nishi. I know you are the same with other people, too. You are far ahead of so many others in how you do not let one factor detour you from being friends with someone. You see people from multiple angles. This makes you a terrific friend to not just me, but all those who are fortunate enough to know you. *Snugs*
