I just thought that since you had steel plate armour, you might know about half-swording.
Half-swording is when you grab the sword on the blade. Sounds weird, but it is an actual technique from the medieval instruction books.
One way of half-swording is holding one hand on the handle, and the other close to the point of the blade, in case to have better control over the point of the blade, so it is easier to hit between the openings of the plate armour.
The other way of half-swording I know of is holding both hands on the blade and then use the guard/handle/pommel as a hammer. Effective to make significant damage without worrying too much about having to go between the openings of the plate armour.
If you look up "Skallagrim half swording" on youtube you'll find a guy explain it.
