There's a reason why they do

The artist is clearly moving in the style direction -they- want to. Your own personal opinion doesn't do much more than make them feel bad about themselves (unless they specifically asked for the thoughts of others).

Sure, some might find the middle style more visually appealing - and that's fine - but for what she's going for the one on the right is a vast improvement. You're obviously in your right to comment about it, but saying things like "there's a reason why they do," is making it sound like she's doing something wrong and you're the one trying to fix it. It's unwarranted and rude.

Plus, I think the artist can speak for themselves.
I'm pretty sure the fact that they posted a progression with a ? is an invite to personal opinons from an artistic perspective.

She's complaining because your second comment came off as haughty, and it irritated her. And I understand why: It's easily interpreted as meaning that the "reason" people make those types of comments so much is because the artist didn't actually improve at all. Which is a serious bummer to an artist - as I'm sure you'd understand being an artist yourself. I've seen very similar comment threads all around FA, and ultimately when someone says something similar to what you did, it's meant to sting.

If your intent is to help artists through your opinions, you should be more thorough about it - leaving one terse sentence that can be interpreted so many different ways is doing it wrong. Only now am I seeing that you want to help her in some way. If you said something along this line in the first place, I wouldn't have opened my big mouth ;p

EDIT - I forgot about the comment you left directly to her. Which does elaborate more, but still doesn't really do too much to help her out or leave the impression that you're trying to help.

Nobody said she didn't improve. She did. But the second style catches the eye more. I already said why.

It has more dynamism, even if the drawing base isn't as detailed.

It's more full of passion and life due to the contrast, colors and textures.

It's not just the pink light, it's everything.

Middle one is fucking garbage and I have no idea why people like it. WOEOWEOWOEOW COLORS, haha. I could of easily put the pink rim on the newest one too, but just didn't want to.

I haven't done anything with her because the old versions were fucking atrocious, haha. I might have to because she is sorta decent now (I guess?) :p

I like the coloring of the middle, reminds me of a comic book.

Amazing progression - I do like them all but the latest one looks really amazing. She looks delicate and feminine and the line work looks really intricate.

I like things like this, they show how far someone can arrive with discipline and a continue look at different directions. I'm not a fan of "I like this more than the others" because they're steps? A step is important, okay, but it's transitory, a test.
I do love this kind of evolution, it shows personality in each step but the final result is a clear and defined direction, which is awesome. Hm... dunno if that was clear, what I wanted to say is: you managed to outline a defined personality, it is shown in your recent pics and it's amazing. :D
