I used to have a couple of the Zebra hermits in my tank... cute little things. They aren't quite as big as the land hermits. The last one that survived, lived longer than I had expected

Well, they're not as easy as pet stores will have you believe. For instance things they need that pet stores don't usually provide them: a heat level that remains between 75-84 degrees, substrate that is at least two times as deep as your largest crab is tall as they need to bury in order to molt, and a bowl of salt water along with a bowl of non-chlorinated regular water.

See, pet stores try and sell them as short-lived pets... but the reason they die so quickly is actually improper care. Hermits well cared for have lasted decades!
