This project was an experementing peice to test my newly leveled up skills in milling/ engraving/ etching, hand filing and treating hand made bone jewelry. Details are as follows;
● Shaping and forming:
The feather was rough formed with a Dremel power tool and initially shaped using fine detail etching and engraving bits. I then hand filed everything as best I could to form using fine detail files and a fine finish metal working file.
● Coloration Treatment Procedure:
The feather has been treated to be a beautiful alabaster white via being submerged in a bath of medical grade Hydrogen Peroxide. ( Note: This is my first experimental procedure using such a compound. It is a solution I highly reccommend.)
● Dimensions (guestimated):
1 inch in length by about 3/4 inch in width of flat. It's depth ( edge width) varies due to detail work.
● Polishing treatment:
Originally hand polished by use of fine Whetstones and quadruple zero steel wool, the finishing touches for polish were made by hand using a 4 step Emory block.
● Clear coat treatment:
None yet. If someone wants to buy it then I'll give it a once over with clear high gloss nail polish.
● For Sale:
This peice has been sold. Other such bone feathers like this ( depending on size and level of difficulty) will start at $18.00 for small 1 inch bone down feather , $20 for a 3 inch medium length feather, and $25 for large 5.5 inch long bone quill feathers. Feathers upon request may be dyed using natural stains and alcahol soluble inks then applied along with clear coat solution of either wax or nail polish.
