I've been taking some time off to do some studying- just felt like it was time I really tackled some issues I've been having. While I've mostly been focusing on drawing, I felt a bit like painting today, so I decided to experiment with some lineless painting, which is something I've never done before.
He's a bit derpy looking, but for my first shot I think it came out pretty decently! The lack of lines definitely adds a layer of complexity to the painting, you can't get away with lazy lighting like you can with an inked picture, but at the same time it removes the necessity for inking, which is fantastic when you suck at it as hard as I do. It was kind of fun, overall!
Anyway, very loosely and lazily reffed from here: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fK3T27K_q.....0/red-fox2.jpg
Just a little doodle on a small piece of heavy, rough paper I had sitting around. Lemme know your thoughts, folks!

Woo! +1 to Art Skills! Definitely keep experimenting. Lineless is tough, but you're aware of the trade-offs already. The eyes... just a bit too big, it really shows in the thumbnail, but I've seen most anthro artists struggling with "real animal" eyes, and similarly for the other way. heather Bruton does great animal-eye style that is slightly tweaked towards human/anthro; don't try to have her do a full on cartoon eyes, I think she'd disintegrate or something. :x)
To be fair, I wasn't really aiming for realistic or accurate by any means- I have very little interest in realism. This was merely an exercise in colouring, so the eyes being too big are intentional... or at least, I didn't go out of my way to avoid it. After all, given the nature of most of my work, giving the critters I draw a more human/cute/cartoony look is definitely an asset, where straight realism can often look unpleasant in my opinion.
So yeah, wasn't worried about the drawing, just the colouring. The slight lopsidedness, however, I have no excuse for. That was just me plain failing. x3
