A post-processed image of the Milky Way. I don't think it's bad for one of my first true attempts at astrophotography. The bright star low left on the image is Alpha Centauri, our closest stellar neighbor apart from the sun. The bright orange star just setting nearer to the center of the image is Antares, part of the constellation Scorpius. Picture is centered on the center of the Milky Way. The person in the picture is a guy named George, who among three other people, gave me quite nice company while I was in the Atacama. He taught me quite a few things!
The little dome you see in the picture is a rentable observatory space. Essentially one would rent out that space, and they could mount their scopes and whatnot and have it relay their information back to them wherever they are. It's largely for astrophotography and processing of the images taken in the astrophotography sense.
I think this was a one-minute exposure, taken at f 4.0, using a remote trigger. I think the parameters should appear on the side alongside with this.
The red light in the foreground is from the red flashlight George was holding, as red flashlights are a must in stargazing, since any other form of light will ruin your night-vision.
The red glow in the background is the light from the actual city of San Pedro de Atacama, highlighting atmospheric dust from the various sandstorms and whatnot.
Man my trip was INCREDIBLE.
