Ignore the "stars" in here. A large majority of the dots you see is actually noise, because I'd not turned on dark-noise-reduction yet. Besides this one isn't about stars. It's about that pyramid of light you see. I suppose I should have exposed it longer, but this is the best I could do, even with post-processing, to bring it out. It was MUCH more obvious in person and whatnot.
For those that don't know what the Zodiacal light is, it has absolutely nothing to do with astrology bullshit whatsoever, past the Zodiac constellations itself. The Zodiac constellations are simply the constellations along the ecliptic plane--that is to say, the ones you'll find the planets in. In fact, low on the picture you'll find Jupiter. It's the bright, yellow, obvious dot that's right in the middle of the Zodiacal light near the ground. That's not noise--it's Jupiter! But yeah. The Zodiacal Light is essentially the sun lighting up the dust that's in the ecliptic plane found within and in between the inner planets. It's *extremely* faint and you have to be in a VERY dark location to be able to see it. Any small amount of light pollution will ruin it. The Gegensheim is at the antisolar point, and it's a full magnitude fainter than the zodiacal light. I'd have easily been able to see it if it weren't, at this point of the year, right in the middle of the milky way, and got washed out by the light. The Gegensheim is essentially the sunlight that filters through the atmosphere and whatnot to the opposite side of the earth. I think now (August) it's in Capricornus now.
But yeah. Space.
