You know what I like the most about this picture? It's the implication that there's a real-deal war going on.
In the fairly low-intensity conflicts that the M1 has fought in, one that's taken hits and suffered damage to its optics would be hauled back into the motor pool for repairs - this is compared to M4s in WWII that would sometimes have to fight on despite battle damage due to strategic expediency of keeping the front moving. Such a sight would be much more likely in a WW3 scenario where they can't afford to pull a tank that can still fight back for maintenance.
