It's partially my style of drawing Charmeleons. Apart from that, Mycaelis is a Laconian and they are usually physically larger and buffer than their normal variants.
The spine on his back is again, a stylized choice. Charmander used to have a back spine back in the RBY days I believe. I like that idea because it will then turn into wings, so I decided to keep it on Mycaelis' design.
