Okay, here I tried something new. I made it a challenge to myself to write a story within 20 minutes. Write and edit within 20 minutes. I had to stop at 20 minutes, no matter what. This is as far as I've gotten. I know its not much and I wish I had gotten further too.
This was a lot of fun, actually. I'm glad I did this. I will have to try this more often.
20 Minute Writing Challenge:
“Crap.” He muttered to himself. It was another long day. He was still studying for finals and he still had work tonight. The dog looked down at his wrist. He had lost track of time again. If he ran he could only be an hour late.
“I'll never understand this stuff.” He muttered again, as he stood up and started shoving books into his book bag. He didn't know why he had to know calculus anyway. It wasn't like he was going to be a physicist, or a scientist, or anything. He had no idea of what his major was going to be. However, he knew one thing: he didn't want to do math for a living.
He hefted the bag over his shoulder and began sprinting across campus. He dashed through lush green trees, over bushes and barely cleared a couple on the other side having a picnic. The quad between the library and his building was just a blur of green, moving bodies, and the occasional scream as he nearly missed this person or that one.
Tiffany sighed and hefted her books again. They where always so heavy for her. Her smaller frame was perfect height for a fox. However she was a midget compared to the other canines on campus. She was treated nice but could still hear the calls of “mouse breath” from high school. So she held her books a little too close to her chest. Walked a little fast between classes. And usually held her head down.
She tipped her head up and pushed her glasses upon her head just in time to see the dog run full tilt into her.
Books and pages flew across the pathway as the dog tilted forward and landed head long into the bushes along the pathway.
“Oww!” she cried. She dared not say much more.
The dog began a litany of “oh shit oh shit oh shit oh shit” as he scrambled to pick up the books that had been scattered about. As he grabbed every paper he could find he held a paw out. “Are you okay? Please tell me you're okay.”
Tiffany could only nod. “I'm fine.” she said.
“I think these belong to you.” He replied.
“Thanks.”
The dog held out the books.
“I can't see anything without my glasses.” She replied.
“Oh.”
The dog stepped backwards and looked down. Just in time to hear a crunch beneath his footpaw. “whoops.” was all he could say. Tiffany silently began to weep as the dog reached down and picked them up.
“I'm sorry. I should have been watching where I was going.”
Tiffany swallowed and nodded. The dog was actually apologizing. She knew it was a dog from his size. However, she couldn't see much else. He placed the glasses in her paw. “I was racing to work before I got fired.” He said.
