Quick 'n dirty sketch. One of my favorite moments in gaming, knocking out a Hammerite.

Thief: The Dark Project was one of the most original and fun ideas in gaming history. The first to do stealthing, and doing a much better job at it than most games in the genre since.
Thief: The Metal Age was even better, as the developers actually listened to their fans and improved as much they could. The countless fan missions made for it, so much fun to be had!
Thief: Deadly Shadows was an interesting turn, losing a lot of the old charm (no more sprawling, open levels) but still had its moments.
Square Enix did their absolute worst at trying to reboot the series with their "Thief". They screwed up the gameplay (rope arrows used to be fun in the older games, now they're strictly contextual), they screwed up the character, they screwed up the maps, the minimaps, the takedown moves (silent takedowns somehow sound like orchestra) and pretty much everything about it. It was the last game I ever looked forward to, and left me saddened for weeks, as none of my hopes had been fulfilled.
So yush, the first three are lovely, the second most of all, but the fourth is a most ungodly abomination.
