I figured an innocuous post was due. This was due to my father and I having a conversation about art/animation a while back. Long story short, he was marveling at the CGI in a recent movie, and at the time I think I scoffed because I work in and prefer the hand drawn 2D. I kind of reeled myself in, because crap like that's so subjective that the argument accomplishes nothing. Anyways, I drew this kind of to do something that was CGI rendered in a 2d format. I think it's more of a fun exercise. If anything I actually try to paint every once in a while to make images based on volume over line, but I won't bore you people with babble any longer.

I tend to perfer the classic hand drawn cartoons over the current flood of CGI movies due in part of how the clsassic cartoons tend to be more spontanious and personal with the aniamtion's movements, body language and sense of charm.
Anyway, that is a nice drawing with bright smile and the blue T-shirt. I love the use of Disney cartoon style of having the outlines of the objects or body parts being of a color similar to the inward coloring of said object/body part (like having the blue shirt having dark blue outlines.) I wish to color like that but couldn't figure out how.

It's cool to hear that. I think one could argue that the direct involvement and control with 2d animation gives it the human touch you speak of, and I can't personally disagree with that. I was born into the 2d world but kind of saw CGI grow alongside it, in both form and popularity. I think CGI is handicapped by its relative age of medium, not to mention a lot of CGI movies lack any creative ingenuity or sense of narrative. It's just a different world now, and though I will always work in and favor 2d, I think it's fair to nut rule out CGI as a medium, but to acknowledge it has untapped potential. Thanks for your thoughtful words :)
You're welcome. I think though computer animation (both Pixar style and "Paperman" style) doesn't capture my heart and imagination as much as the 2D stuff does, it may be fine for Hollywood to try doing those sort of movies. But it is very heartrenching how all the studios make nothing on the animation market these days but CGI while formats of non-computer animation are canceled (save but "Princess and the Frog", "Winnie the Pooh", The Simpsons Movie and a couple of stop-motion clay movies.) That said, The Kung Fu Panda movies and "Rio" are OK for me to watch,
but my top favorite films are hand-drawn, which include "Lady and the Tramp", "Oliver and Company", "Balto", "101 Dalmations (an old childhood favoite)", Disney's "Beauty and The Beast", "The Secret of NIMH", "Batman Mask of the Phantasm", "The Fearless Four", "The Plague Dogs", and "Felidae".
On my final word on this post, I do believe that someday soon the old pencil and papaer techique of hand drawing will come back in the future as it did in the 1980s. If vinyl recording records are coming back, who knows? At least they still make something like hand-drawn stuff in some other counrties like Japan and some parts of Europe.
