Against my better judgement I decided to release samples of the first three "chapters" of my main novel, which I have spent 11 years working on.
the full novel (over 700 pages atm) has been finished since 2008 but I've spent since then editing, polishing, expanding and verifying continuity of the chapters.

blurb:
The novel about Demaskis and Damien, two hybrids share similar appearance that have completely different outlooks. Demaskis is a teenage drifter, selling his trade as a monster hunter to scrape an existence while Damien is a assassin for hire where the thrill of the kill excites him just as much as his lucrative fee. No matter where they travel, or the measures taken to avoid it, the two hybrids always seem to cross paths.
It is unknown to Demaskis if this frequent occurrence is by chance or an undercurrent motive but what is certain whenever they meet always results in a violent confrontation that leaves immeasurable destruction in their wake. These skirmishes with Damien aren’t his only problem; he is hounded by protection agencies who want to use him for their own questionable purposes, the dangers of remembering fragments of his errased past and the mysterious being called Devona moving behind the scenes.
Demaskis and Damien, both walk two separate paths, one of destruction while the other path of redemption but which one is really following which?
Eternal Chronicles of Fate: Existence SAMPLE 1 by Kadenthefox
Prologue
Lighting a cigar in the night air a soldier squinted out at the dropships delivering their passengers. Eager to see their new investment, hundreds of politicians and military officers began to file into the research facility.
They had been promised that this new V-Series Hybrid would guarantee mankind’s victory against the ongoing alien threat - and finally bring an end the Multiverse war.
The corridor to their destination was a shade of sterile-white. Occasionally one of the guests would peer through a lab window to observe the progress of other experiments.
At the far end of the corridor was a large room filled with tables laden with finger food. Guests mingled and jostled whilst casting expectant looks toward the stage.
“On behalf of Whiteguard Labs personal I would like to thank you all for coming” a tall man boomed as he mounted the stage. “My name is Gavin Torna and I am the chief scientist on the V-Series project”
An officer, mid rank to judge from his uniform, shouted from the assembled crowd “You called me here on the eve of a major offence in the Opia universe, this better be worth my time”.
“I can assure you Major, this will change warfare forever” Gavin replied with just the slightest hint of a smile. Pressing a button on his wrist, the doors sealed tightly behind the guests. “This is just a security measure” he assured “We don’t want the prototype to wander off”. He clasped his hands together and beamed. “Now, allow me to introduce you to the future; Experiment Three!”
The doors retracted with a loud hiss as scattered applause from the gathered crowd. A few seconds later, a childlike creature stepped through the door. Unmistakably Hybrid, its ears, nose and feet were fox-like and its eyes were red as blood. The creature’s skin rapidly adjusted its pigmentation to adjust to the room’s abient radiation levels.
Fastened around its neck was a metal collar fitted with a micro computer. Yawning, Experiment Three then greeted the assembled crowd, looking around and rubbing its eyes sleepily.
“Is this supposed to be a fucking joke?” hissed a man from the crowd.
“How’s this little shit supposed to be bring us victory?”
“It looks kind of cute, but why doesn’t he have a tail like the other Series models?” another queried.
“Is that a sedation collar?”
“I’ll answer those questions in order” Gavin replied- raising a hand to quell the rising hubbub. “Due to the unique construction methods of design, this Hybrid needs to naturally mature. However, even in this ‘cute’ state, Experiment Three has the destructive power of fifty E-Series Mark twos and can swiftly recover from any wound. When mature and with the correct neural programming, we predict the power of any such V-Series will be tenfold.”
He paused to watch the prototype wander towards a table of food. “Moving to the next question, the V-Series physique provides more flexibility than that of an E-Series weasel, so having a tail was just a redundant liability. And the final question regarding the sedation collar, well, yes it’s just a precaution till we fine tune its’ personality”.
All eyes were on the creature as it snatched an apple from the table and took a large bite. Then with ears suddenly pricked it swung around and narrowed its eyes toward the door. As if on cue, the complex shook with a loud explosion.
“Stay calm” Gavin yelled as the screaming crowd began to scatter “This room was designed to withstand orbital bombardment” he snatched for his dataplate. “Officer Taggal, report, are we under attack?”
“This is Sergeant Rev, Taggal is KIA” a female voiced responded. In the background, gunshots rang out. “Its Two, he’s broken out of containment and gone on a rampage”.
Gavin exhaled heavily. “Of all the days for Experiment Two to misbehave…”
As the military personnel began to herd civilians to the end of the room, the officers assumed a firing line facing the door.
Outside, the screams and cracks of gunfire were getting closer but as the combat reached the door of the facility everything became ominously quiet. A soft knocking became audible and a voice cried from outside: “The door is locked, can someone let me in?”
Between chews Experiment Three called out: “In a second Two, I’ll let you in once I finish eating”
For a brief minute there was complete silence, the only thing audible was experiment Three chewing.
As the military officers erratically shifted their aim between the door and Experiment Three , Gavin remained calm while he kept his fingers resting on his remote. Three had a gluttonous appetite when it came to apples. On the off chance he could pull himself away from the table all it took was one press of a button to shut him down.
“You’re taking too dam long, let me in fuck damit!” Experiment Two shouted as the door then began to bulge as he impatiently began to pound his way in. Then with a bang, the door flew into the room. Barely indistinguishable from Three, Experiment Two swaggered through the doorway brandishing a severed head and dripping in blood. He grinned manically toward Gavin:
“Oh look, a room full of playthings, father you’re too kind!”
The assembled officers opened fire. The Hybrid recoiled and stumbled about as rounds tore through its body. As they stopped to reload, he flopped to the ground like a discarded doll.
“After all that boasting Gavin, killing your ‘ultimate weapon’ was rather underwhelming” a red haired officer murmured as she sauntered toward the corpse.
“I wouldn’t do that” Gavin shouted as Experiment Two leapt to his feet. Before she could turn she was dangling by the throat and the sickening crack of her spine echoed through the room.
“What’s the meaning of this Two?” Gavin demanded “Clearly this is beyond one of your regular tantrums”.
“Father, Three isn’t the only one with cool powers” he chortled “All I have to do is think about it and it happens: Observe!” Forming the shape of a pistol with his right hand he pointed it into the crowd. “Bang!”
Like a punctured water balloon, the human at the front of crowd skull exploded. Reeling and gagging they staggered backward as brain fragments drenched their clothing.
With a flourish, Two then raised a palm to the ceiling - seconds before a blue apple materialized on his hand: “Ta Da!” He cried: “See!”
Gavin sighed wearily and shook his head ‘Where’s One?”
“One wanted to come, unfortunately she’s a little… tied up at the moment” Two replied as he approached Gavin through the center of the crowd.
Sensing an opportunity, one of the guests made a break for the exit - he was almost at the door when a strange popping sound was heard. His body then exploded into a fine red mist that settled gently on the floor.
“Gavin” an officer barked “Get this flawed prototype out of here be…” He then collapsed onto one knee and began coughing blood.
With a twisted smile Two added “Flawed? The human race is flawed. I’m perfect in every way”.
Gavin had folded his arms tightly and was tapping his elbows with his index fingers. In his experience Two had a small attention span. During his more violent outbursts he would quickly lose interest and go roaming through specimen labs – looking for a more challenging competitor to kill.
What was his real motive? Gavin mused. Regardless, he had to get him out now. “Emergency stand down code command: Absolute terror!”
Experiment Two’s body froze, paralyzed from the neck down.
“That’s a little cheap Father, resorting to the failsafe” Two’s head hissed as he watched Gavin approach.
“You’ve brought this on yourself Two” Gavin replied ruefully, “You’re the only prototype that kills humans. I order you to tell me why you’re here”
Two’s face began to twitch as he fought with all his willpower to disobey. “We’re perfect weapons, capable of destroying armies single handedly. No one should have control over the V-Series. I intend to free Three and live our lives the way we desire”.
Suddenly the atmosphere was broken by the sound of clapping. Looking around, Gavin saw it was a young woman with purple eyes and was wearing a business suit. If he remembered the guest list, she was an aid to a politician of the Saunders system in the Core universe.
“I’ve seen this happen enough times to know how it ends, so if you don’t mind Dr Gavin I’ll be on my way” she informed before vanishing into thin air, leaving an echo of her parting words to Experiment Two: “Shana wel yuma mey Damien.”
“Just when I thought this presentation couldn’t get worse, an Athanase spy had infiltrated the complex…” Gavin muttered, turning his attention back to Two.
“You are programmed, physically incapable of disobeying my orders – so how do you hope to achieve that?”
“I may not be able to go against you” Two began as his eyes darted to the other prototype, “But Three can”.
“And why would Three want to do that?”
“Because he wants to participate in the war and the only thing stopping him is you!”
Suddenly there was a loud screech as a transparent sphere began to expand from Experiment Three. Everthing it touched began to warp and twist until it finally tore apart from structural stress.
“Welcome to the future of warfare” Three spoke, only seconds before the sphere imploded. The resulting vacuum tore a black hole into existence.
