If you were tuned in to my stream yesterday you would've seen the unveiling of this image to the general public. This commission was for  rubbervixen and for this piece she wanted Vikki to go swimming with Petina. Now Vikki if I remember correctly is about 5ft tall and Petina in her mouse form is only 8.5" tall, so for them to be roughly the same size we just made Vikki smaller. The magic of illustration!

Now I am rather happy with several elements of this piece. First I like how the reflected light off the bottom of the aquarium on to Vikki's suit. Another concern I was presented with how to portray the diffused lighting that is coming from above. Also since it is a strictly grayscale piece I wanted to make certain that objects wouldn't merge into one great big, grey, mass! So I did all the diffused light as long, diagonal lines. The rocks I did as short, diagonal lines going in the opposite direction. The ground/ sand a rough, random, relatively horizontal lines.

The image is 11"x 16" done on vellum finish Bienfang Bristol board. I used a 0.5mm mechanical pencil with 2B lead and another loaded with 4B.
