This is Cain...a character in my post-human wasteland novel series, he will be in the second of the trilogy with Quinn and Rodriego.

He was once a Dryad, or a spirit bound to a tree, when the world was nice. But since the world is fucked over because of //things// *no spoilers for my novel here* He is now a dryad rotting from the inside out since he has given up his spirit form to take on a mortal body, and thus his body reflects the state of the tree his soul is still bound to. He is surprisingly optimistic though and still has a deep love for people, even after all the ruin they have caused him, he is sure that if they try they can redeem themselves somehow. In my world, these dying dryads are often seen as unlucky spirits by those who traverse through the dead woods, so Cain tends to be avoided a lot of the time, except of course by Quinn who did not grow up in the wasteland. The stuff dripping from him is a sort of super-thick black sap. So it drips really slowly, and actually has a very sticky texture. Not fun.
