That's a great story! Reminds me of the time eight years ago when I was in New Mexico and visited Bandelier National Park. Our tour group ate our picnic lunch outdoors and were surprised at the same a few of the forest animals stayed very close to us. When one group of us left our table, a squirrel leapt up on it and started searching for crumbs. Then at anyone abandoned table, a small bird (like the one in your picture) made a quick landing and started pecking the tiny scraps of food we left behind. I think I was able to snap a quick photo of the bird (missed the squirrel, it was too fast).
