Big Lipped Dragon Moment (v2)
Usually I wouldn't upload an "alternate" version of a picture I already uploaded that's so similar but I found myself liking this version so much I couldn't help myself - I love the other version with his teal lipstick but I also really like how this looks with his natural black lip...so why not have both?! I'm at work right now but I'll edit this one some more when I'm home so refresh later!
Once again this was drawn as a joke to poke fun at Ryuu's somewhat oversized lips, although I guess he could use his magic whenever he wanted to make them any size...
And here's an alternate version with a full set of luscious red lips -3- http://i.imgur.com/Ai4DNS5.png

That's a neat design! I actually have another dragon who looks even more like Ferro haha http://www.furaffinity.net/view/16042021/
I think you could use this as an icon for a small while. It's a really brilliant headshot! Considering you've only got one part of the body to work with, you really do manage to draw in expression, mood and show off your ability so well! :D
Also just realised I never commented on the original. D: But one thing I do notice with regard to your previous Tweet about bringing your traditional technique into your digital work is that you are managing it really well. How you apply colour (I'm looking particularly at the blue and purple scales on his neck) is very similar to your traditional art; above, I can how you've applied the colour in strokes, almost like a paintbrush or, more appropriately, a marker. Perhaps the one-up on your digital compared to your traditional is that your pieces look much bolder, the colours working with the shading make for almost a deeper piece. Maybe saying it's a better thing isn't quite right. It's different anyway. Even so, I believe you're doing a great job of making your style across traditional and digital consistent, so good job! :D
I must also insert the obligatory remark concerning how fabulous Ryuu looks. Ryuu looks fabulous. :p

I see what you mean about the brush strokes on this, it does emulate my traditional style really well - but rather embarrassingly I've forgotten what brush and settings I used for it! This calls for some experimenting I think. The issue with most my digital art seems to be I'm too focus on making it look smooth and neat instead of branching out and leaving in some scruffiness.
I'm glad you approve of this, it's pretty simple but I still like it. Ryuu is just a camera whore and knows how to use his appearance and expressions well (hey, he is super photogenic after all). He's so over the top yet beautiful which is why I have so much fun drawing him!
I'd love to use it as an icon but I can't abandon my spotty slobbery derp! I already have people thinking Ryuu is my main fursona haha

Ahh, true enough. I suppose Enigma's glued himself to the screen with drool anyway! ;)
I do love seeing you draw Ryuu. I can tell you have loads of fun drawing him and actually, although all my past attempts at drawing him look pretty dreadful, I have fun with him too! He's got a wonderful design and the personality for some really great pieces! ^^
Yeah, never fear about making a piece look purposefully 'scruffy,' as you put it. Traditional pieces, because of the brush/pen strokes and surface of the paper, appear to have real texture and with digital art, you do iron it out so the piece looks flat. You know how to avoid that, keeping a digital piece as interesting to look at as a traditional piece (not talking about the character involved per se, but the technique used to draw it). I think you just need to keep on practicing with digital whilst bringing in your knowledge of traditional media. I say you're doing really well and keep at it. c:

Ohoho thank you kindly! I am still quite fond of that alt version and I wonder if it's worth uploading here - 3 versions of the same piece seems like spam. Maybe if I put it in scraps? Either way I'm so happy you approve! While I love Ryuu with his usual default plump lower-lip-only look there is something very alluring about him having upper and lower, can't put my finger on it.
I think it taps into the "the more lippy, the better" sensibility... having both lips be so beautifully bloated must make his kisses even more soft and sloppy right?
Or maybe that's just why I like it so much... And either way he's a great character with lots of fun antics and soft kisses left in store I'm sure!
As for the spam thing, I don't think it's too bad... after all that's what scraps are for, sketches and alternates!
