Is the muzzle/jaw area a bit off? Or am I just suffering "artist blindness" and overthinking things and thus just being paranoid that it looks off?
I cannot help but feel the jaw is too skinny and that it is too skinny cause the fangs are too far in and should be more to the edge?
I think I am just overthinking it? I mean, this is not supposed to be taxidermy real, the customer wants a "stylized" head, a "characterized" head, a "semi-real" head, so perfect to the real deal anatomy is not required.
(the mane is just pinned on, excuse the lopsidedness)

Hrm... o3o With the fangs, is there any chance you could adjust the bottom jaw to be larger and have space at the sides for the fangs to still be able to rest normally? It might fix the proportion problems. Otherwise, I don't have a clue. I'm a fur-addict and can point out flaws if asked, but I am kinda useless in the area of giving advice on how to make something look better. XD
I would:
make the muzzle more narrow. I've made this comparison:

If you could make the muzzle look more "boxy" I think that would definitely help ^^ also the bottom jaw looks like it could come out a bit further.

just make indents in the bottom jaw to conform around them and stylize it with some dark jawl type of lips :'3 also consider saber skulls! the bottom jaw nearly matches the top row in width but then swoops back behind the bottom row of teeth to make room for the top longest fangs.
https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2735/.....9fe740c8_b.jpg also important to consider. i think the bridge of the muzzle is too sloped down and narrow. thats the first thing i noticed that really stuck out. cat and big cat heads don't have as much muzzle length or slope as regular dogs do... shorter and more of a steep slope shape on the bridge to the nose.
It also gives the "doe" kind of effect. I usually draw characters I want to appear as very cute with that effect.

My dropbox is glitching out a bit, so I'll have to use tinypic for now.
I don't know if this even works, but here you go :x http://oi57.tinypic.com/mutr90.jpg

er ;3; isn't a doe/deer in general's heads sloped on the bridge kind of like a lion's too? I guess thats why the term you used was confusing. and I'm not sure this applies very well to the stylization this is going for, either. then again I guess I can't make that call because the author comment is still kind of vague on that, but I assume it wants to be recognized mostly as a lion and thats also why they asked for crits in the first place.
the doe effect is kind of based on the cartoon-style bambi was drawn like (which is what I tried to replicate with my own kind of drawing style)

The only thing that really jumps out at me is the symmetry of the muzzle. The left side (on the picture) is a little longer/more squished than the right side, but I think the way the freckles are spaced might be emphasising it (they're closer together height-wise on the left side?). I think the shape is really nice though. Maybe it's just the lighting/the way the mane is brushed in the picture?
but omg i love the colors/markings, they're so subtle and pretty. im so excited to see this one when its done @_@

I think what is throwing your thoughts off is the area from the eyes to the front of the muzzle. If it was less of a hourglass shape and more of a taper from wide to narrow it may not trigger your head to feel that something is off. I like how wide the front of the muzz is, the spacing of the teeth and the size of the lower jaw. the base or back or whatever you want to call it of the muzzle is perhaps a bit thin.
Having said that, its a character so it really doesn't have to follow any rules or regulations. Perhaps you should not over think it and rock it out :)

well since its unfinished its really hard to say wince the eye sockets obscure the shape a bit.
ill just post http://7-themes.com/data_images/out.....-wallpaper.jpg
the lower jaw seems to be a bit small and thin. lion jaws are often exagerated in art and design since the species lower jaw is large and very muscular.
cheeks may be a bit poofed out but i think style is more important and the more poofy squishy face seems to be more liked by furries.
hope that helps otherwise it looks good to me.
