I said there'd be more pictures from my visit to China, and I wasn't kidding
Guanxi was the last province we visited on our trip across the country (not counting a flight home from Hong Kong Airport), and it was by far and away my favorite part of the entire journey, particularly the mountains of Yangshuo. We visited these rice patties a few days before we reached Yangshuo, however, and they're a strong contender for second place. These valleys were absolutely amazing: everything was just so luscious, pure and vibrant. The people here actually cook their rice inside of hollow bamboo shoots in order to infuse the rice with the essence of the bamboo, making it ridiculously healthy and delicious to boot.
Guanxi is one of the more southern parts of China and the temperatures during our visit were damn near sub-tropical, but it was so totally worth it. This is genuinely a place that time has forgotten, just the polar opposite of Shanghai or Hong Kong. I can honestly that I have never been anywhere that felt more real, and yet at the same time, dreamlike. Yangshuo in particular just occupies this huge chunk of my memory as an experience unlike any I've ever had.
If you ever go to China, do yourself a favor, and visit Guanxi. It's pretty far inland and it'll take a pretty long while, but when you get there you will be so glad that you did.
This picture and your soul belong to me.
