I always like it when I have an idea in my head that I want to draw, get down to drawing it but overtime it becomes something completely different and not what I imagined but it still looks great.

I really want to use an example from an old British Sitcom I love but I don't think the reference will be caught.

Dude, I completely sympathize with this, and I congratulate you for taking that step. I still haven't the courage to take that step, as I find myself having the exact. same. issue. While i draw characters all the time, I have almost zero experience with drawing any believable environments or backgrounds. The ones I have drawn, whether it's for myself or a commission, always felt like a cop out to me. Too repititve, lacking in detail. So I totally understand this. It makes me want to try my hand at getting good with environments too.
