I feel like I have a well rounded collection now. A couple of these are still works in progress, most notably the SKS which needs to be put back in proper Yugo furniture. And the AK is getting plum furniture because shut up.

I like the PTRs a lot. They are pretty nicely made and decently accurate. The only thing is they are a smidge front heavy. Oh and if you were thinking of getting into reloading, PTRs and really anything in the HK 90 series just destroy brass. Also, parts are these weird mix of super cheap mass surplus parts like military stocks and mags, and then obscenely expensive other accessories.
The first one I got was the GI, mostly I wanted a good battle rifle that would eat anything, and it does. Then I wanted one that was set up more as a DMR. For the DMR I took a PTR F and fitted it with a reworked trigger group, an AK-74 style brake, a Magpul PRS2 stock and some other nonsense.

Can't beat a 762 for dmr. I had charging handle clearance issues with the stock one after I installed a scope on my Ruger, ended up getting a bcm gunfighter extended charging handle and it solved my problems. My baby ^~^ http://www.furaffinity.net/view/15089680/
What I wonder, does a gun license cost anything in the US? I mean, here in germany, if you wanna collect guns (which IS kinda possible, though the only kind of guns you can really collect are sport guns and ones used for hunting) you obviously need a license, and said license needs to be renewed regularly (I think annually?) which costs a certain fee.
So I wonder, is getting a gun license free in the US (I assume not) and is there a regular fee to keeping it?

Well every state has their own laws and every state is a little different. Most states don't require any kind of license to buy or own guns, some states require guns to be registered some don't. Most states do however require a license to carry a gun. I live in Georgia, we have no ownership licenses or registration but I do have a carry license which in my county is about $80 for five years. Guns bought through normal means from an FFL (Federal Firearms Licensee) require an FBI background check and a record of sale. In GA a private sale doesn't require anything but it's smart to have documents because you really don't want to be the last link on a firearms trace. FFLs are mostly for businesses, either buying and selling or manufacturing, but the Type 3 FFL is for individual collectors of "curio & relic" firearms and if you hold one of these you can have old guns (50+ years old) and super oddball guns shipped directly to you, that license is about $30 a year, and almost not worth getting because holding any FFL is an annoyance. That one is mostly for heavy collectors to avoid transfer fees at gun shops.
NFA items (National Firearms Act) like silencers, machine guns, short barrel rifles, short shotguns, and all that fun stuff require a 3-6month background check, approval of local law enforcement or a firearms legal trust, a $200 tax stamp and federal registration. They also require advance notice when traveling from state to state, notification of address changes, copies of their documents with them at all times, and a safe to keep them in. They are a lot more of a hassle and relatively few people bother with them. Couple that with the very stiff penalties for getting caught with an unregistered NFA item and it leads to the general public perception that they are illegal, when they are in fact just a pain in the ass to own.
