This actually hits close to home for me, because a naturally talented artist crushed my spirit when I was in Middle School by saying my art was shit. Was it shit? Yeah, compared to her art. Would it have become something wonderful if she hadn't done that? Hell yeah.
Her sister (also an artist), tried to fix the damage and scorn her sister, but the damage was done. Later when I tried again, I started by sketching DVD box art, and every person I showed it to didn't believe me and told me Ii traced it (even my own mother). Crushing blow #2. And now my art is perpetually stuck in shit mode and I've never been able to improve. :/
