This was really time consuming. It was also very enjoyable to make, even though it's not perfect. I rather hope there are people that like this kind of thing because I want an excuse to do more.
This would have looked a bit better scanned (I had to photograph it) except that the scanner completely washed out the green in the hair. Shucks.

I did have a period where I wanted to try out cross-stitch because it has some similarities to making pixel art! That and my mother (though not in the last few months) has spent a good few years doing it properly with large charts, with full stitches, half stiches, lining, beads- the lot!
I've seen some of that work with all of the different kind of stitches and beading and so forth - it's amazing! I'm not sure I'm ready for it yet. If I do another of these I will make a proper chart though. This one I did by just holding it over a drawing (very difficult to see) and also winging it (some mistakes were made).
