You know, I was actually expecting this sort of message, just not the second reply.
I know you're not fond of Patreon, but pardon me for wanting some financial stability in my art.

Financial stability is one thing. Paywalls is another.

Everyone I've seen jumping on the bandwagon has been using it as a paywall for content.

Not much difference between that and a self-run paywall (HotBlush for example). But I'm guessing you have issue with those too.

Take a look at how I'm actually handling my tiers. Do you feel I'm paywalling?

She's actually been really hesitant about starting one. Think of it this way: it gives people an opportunity to show their support for Kos, even if they can't offer much. It's sorta so she feels she can actually offer something to those who're going the extra mile.

The really funny part about this, though, is artists somehow managed to get along just fine with things like, you know, COMMISSION WORK before Patreon came along.

Before Patreon came along artist also needed a steady stream of donations to get a comic going. Trough I am not a fan of Patreon my self i see it's advantages if implemented correctly.

So stop going on the other bandwagon and shout out it's bad before you look and realise that Patreon is only as bad as the artist makes it.

That's.. quite the sultry add, isn't it? Should add a speech bubble saying "A dollar a month and I remove this here sign!"

Unfortunately I'm in the position of watching over 1000 artists between furaffinity, inkbunny, weasly, and deviant art. The bulk of whom are now using Patreon, so even at 1 dollar each I can't support them all. I've been forced into the unpleasant position of choosing favorite artists...OR ignoring Patreon content altogether and occasionally dropping in on pirate sites that post paywalled content without the artists consent. I hate BOTH of the roads that have been laid before me.

Add to the above scenarios that I got robbed of my laptop and digital database (external harddrive) and I've lost a lot of the passion I had for art. I'm not saying entirely that I am against Patreon, I realize that everyone needs to make a living...however Patreon has jaded hundreds of artists into paywalling, thinking they will be able to support their entire livelihoods on their art. Fact is, you need a HUGE Web presence for that. I'm talking JayNaylor or Sakimichan huge! MILLIONS of page views on half a dozen sites. If someone doesn't have that sort of reputation, then pay walling with Patreon in the long run may be COUNTER productive to your exposure and growth..

Then again, I'm just an art fan....I might not really know what I am talking about at all.

And unlike a lot of those artists, I'm using Patreon as a way for people to support my work outside of commissions. I honestly feel the full paywall people are using it as is skeezy.
I don't expect every viewer to give me a dollar a month, that would be insane. I'd be making more than my wife's salary.

You can't. That's fine. I'm expecting the majority of my followers to be in your boat. That's fine too. Those who can are greatly appreciated, and that is also fine.

As long as you're still available for commissions outside of Patreon, and don't hide all your content behind it, I've got nothing to be upset about.

Ps...if I weren't so tight on funds right now due to replacing my stolen stuff, you would still be one of the artists I choose to support. I'm supporting no one right now, because money is so tight.
