My #1 favorite complaint, okay, I have several made against me. I apparently draw too animey, not animey enough, have the expressive drawing capacity of a brick, and then we get to the best one in the group: the Pokemon and Fakemon. Such a huge swath of goodies come out of that singular topic, that it's a lot of overlap and challenging to list. Best one from it: My Mewthree characters (or "Threes" for short) are just too human and just honestly not animey enough. And that is to my usual style. If you think my normal way of doing things is scary, then you haven't seen nothing yet!
Left to right: Mewblade, Vicebane, Swadeaqua, Demisewan, Harddense. I normally don't do extreme close-ups, and I adhere to a sort of semi-mesh of cartoon and realism normally. Lips on Pokemon scare people. Noses scare people. Anything scares people. And this cluster can scare, annoy, irk and puzzle in a whole slew of ways. Pick one with any of them: Swadeaqua's boobs, Vicebane looking like a corpse, Demisewan being a ghost and alive, and making no sense. Harddense looks like a girl, and Mewblade is not a guy (her not smiling is complaint number 1). Get this for 13-15 years, and I've heard everything at least once. Granted, I wanted some new complaints. So, new complaint opportunity presented; some poor attempt at realism. Such things cannot be unseen.
So Mewblade is yes, furred. She has the hair length/density of a doberman dog. I'll never be able to depict Vicebane's skin texture right, but it's sandpapery, and ugly and his eyes are.... sort of shot? Swadeaqua is... Swadeaqua. How does one shade a lack of a nose? Demisewan has fur, okay, nothing new there. New Photoshop brush, went overboard, fluff everywhere. And Harddense is sort of normal... Nothing unexpected just kind of awkward moment where I actually did lips on him, since irony, I actually don't in any style depiction of him. And goodness, after drawing a few more lipless images, it's so fun to draw kissable lips again. Swadeaqua pout for the win!
Now aren't you all glad I don't usually play the uncanny valley game!
