Here is yet another one of my 'doodles' from the past - this one drawn on notepad paper...
A recurring gag in many comic strips (most notably in "Garfield") involves a fat character standing on a talking scale. The scale, of course, seems to have a mind of its own, as it lobs a barrage of insults to behemoth beasts who stand upon it.
One concept of my own was a talking scale that speaks in eight (or more) different languages. The logic behind a device like that is whenever a 'fat furry' stands on it, it would mention his/her weight in alternate measurements, so it would sound like the subject isn't as heavy as he/she believes. (For example, if the talking scale was set to speak with a British accent, a 1,400-pound individual standing on it would only weigh '100 stone', or so the scale would say.)
Of could, whether the scale spoke or not, it can only support just so much weight, before it issues its own opinion - in the language it is set on. Such is the case with this burly bear, who has to endure the scale's screaming exclamation! A nearby ferret figures out the scenario easily...
