Strictly, this is directly after the lunar occultation, where the moon appeared to cover another object -- in this case, the planet Venus at 5pm on December 1st, 2008.
It's a typical example of my astronomical prowess. I've been a dedicated stargazer for most of my life. My highlights are missing countless lunar eclipses because I was asleep, missing the best meteor shower of the last century because I had the wrong day of the week marked on my calendar, and watching the 1999 total solar eclipse was done through really thick clouds that rolled over Germany twenty minutes before the event...
<sigh>
With that, I should be thankful that I was able to borrow a DSLR with a dirty lens and get this one handheld shot that wasn't too horribly blurred from my delirium tremens ... and that I spotted what was going on when I walked out the office door -- just at the right time (for once.)
D'you think I'm whinging a little now? :)
