Endless Realms bestiary - Somniophage
Bestiary artwork for Endless Realms, a D&D-like "pen and paper" fantasy RPG I'm working for.
This was a fun creature to come up with. I was given the concept of a creature that feeds on the psychic energy of dreamers, entrapping victims in sleep that never ends unless one can realise they're dreaming and escape - I was not given any idea for feel or appearance. The concept immediately made me think of a kind of literal dreamcatcher, except the other way around, a kind of dream-net that ensnares dreamers, so I figured a vaguely spider-like creature would be fitting :)

XD Yeah, I was like that with wolf spiders - they're big enough that (at least as a little kid) one smack was often not enough to kill them, and they could move FAST - I was scared to lift up the shoe/book/whatever for fear of it darting out towards me :S

()Truly amazing, really. I just hate spiders and I suffer from incredibly bizarre dreams interspersed with *nasty* nightmares. I may have one of these jerks as a juvenile in my house or something. >.>)
