First round of practice faces. I'm going more or less in comment order, but I'm skipping over canids for now because I feel like I've already got a decent handle on them. I might swing by and do a few later though, so don't lose hope yet, heh.
As it turns out, nearly everyone at the top who wasn't a canid of some form was a dragon- which is fortunate for me, since I've always felt I was rather weak at those. Oh, also there's a bunny.
I spent some time on a piece of scrap paper fiddling around with the shape of dragon heads, and then once I felt a tiny bit comfortable, gave these a shot.
Some I'm happy with, some not so much, but all in all not a terrible first round I think. Lemme know your thoughts folks!

Haha, am I still too late to post what little reference I have, Ru? And while on the subject of canids: Most of the canid expressions you do are fairly "gentle" expressions, either that or caught in orgasmic bliss. I don't think I've really seen you draw anything really predatory, like ever =o
Expressions are definitely something I plan on working on a bit, once I've got more a handle on style and anatomy of the various species. So while most of these will be fairly normal expressions, I'll probably do more later that focus on things like that.
And nope, it's not too late to toss your name in the hat. I don't know how many I'll be doing, but I might make it down that far so it doesn't hurt to try!

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i wrote a journal on this a year ago actually http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/5778759/
It was the first one I did outside of some quick practice doodles, so it did give me some trouble, but I think yours still came out as one of the better ones. Dragons are pretty naturally badass looking, so I actually had much more trouble drawing the shy fellow to your right!
I'm a little disappointed with the middle-right, personally. It turned out okay I suppose, but I could never quite settle how I wanted to do it, between the natural baddass look of dragons and the softer features of femininity. I feel like I managed to get the worst of both worlds. x3
I'm getting the sense you like your dragons a bit more on the softer side, based on those preferences?

Largely, yes. One of my many, many characters yet to be drawn is a female dragon named Usha. Think of a AD&D blue dragon mixed with a 4e dragonborn. But purple. Despite all the abominations that came out of 4e, they got the dragonborn right.
Anywho I threw my name in the pot in the other thread. Keep up the great work!

Hey, I'm glad ya like it! Yeah, you can absolutely colour it, as long as I get to see it once it's coloured! :3
I can provide you with a higher resolution scan of it to make colouring easier if you like, feel free to note me an email address if you wish. I'm off to bed, but I can send it out first thing in the morning. Or you can just colour the little one if you'd rather, that's fine too. x3

Aww wow! Thanks for choosing me, that's a huge delight to wake up to. ^^ I really love how that came out, the shape of the muzzle and the expression and the look of the floof... I think it came out great. Thank you. :)
Ahem! Selfishness aside... I think they're all looking really good. We're always our own harshest critics, but from my perspective I've always -really- liked how you draw dragons and scalies, and always found it a treat when you draw them. The way you shape the muzzles manage to look believable but also really cute at the same time. Here especially it really does come through that you've got variety, each head is a slightly different shape and has its own look. It gives a lot more depth and variety than just having one default dragon head shape like I tend to think I do. I should really practise faces and heads more myself!
Also I may have to follow Crystalwhisker's idea and do a colouring of it if you don't mind. ^^ Will certainly share when I do!
Thank you again! :D

Thanks! As you probably read elsewhere, yours was the one I had just about the most difficulty with... it was really hard to balance the natural 'badass' look of dragons with the more shy look that your reference said he was supposed to have. But I think I got there in the end! I'm really glad ya like it, thanks a bunch!
I've always personally felt like dragons were a bit of a weak spot of mine, for pretty much the same reason- I like to draw cute, but dragons are at their best when they look kind of fierce, and I have trouble balancing the two. They sort of work at odds with each other, haha. But I think I'm starting to narrow down how I want to go about them!

Thank you again. ^^ I love how the sketch came out, and it was a lot of fun to colour!
