Several hours had dully passed since Rocky's little brawl with Ace and Strike. His muscles and arms were aching from the attacks that he had been evenly clobbered by, not to mention his legs were about to collapse from all the walking that he and his Gliscor friend had already done. Wagner appeared to recover pretty quickly, which didn't surprise the Weavile. The bat pokemon had the kind of mentality that wouldn't dwell much on passed events, even the scary ones. While his psyche might be doing well enough, his visible self wasn't faring nearly as well.
Being a Gliscor, he offered to carry his friend across the deep, dark forest while gliding through the air. The only problem was the husky from earlier wasn't exactly gentle with his wings when he toyed with him. When Wagner was cruelly stuffed in Ace's giant shoe the dog's powerful toes squeezed him tightly against the powerfully scented confines of the footwear. Needless to say, his left wing was badly bruised. So the two of them were forced into doing things the much harder way, walking on their own two feet.
“I think I can almost see something coming up above.” Wagner said, standing on the tips of his toes. Considering the height difference between the two pokemon, the Gliscor had better eyes for seeing farther away.
Rocky begrudgingly dragged his feet across the dirt, getting his glove-like fabrics on his feet all filled with dirt. The Weavile didn't care that much though. Considering everything they'd been through the were going to need a good cleaning anyway. “Good. I'm sick and tired of all this traveling and I just want to rest already. Is that too much to ask for?!?”.
His bat companion took the hint of his sour mood. “Are you still upset about what happened to the Zangoose and those other poor pokemon?”
“Of course I am, you stupid bat!” The ice type shouted into Wagner's face. “I don't handle watching someone die like that very well, plus that smelly bull still has Vergil! He's probably dead too after the brawl with them!”
The Gliscor maintained his composure. He wasn't one to snap back when someone else had raised their voice, especially if it was a good friend in distress.
“I'm upset too buddy. But I've seen some things that are much worse than what just happened. But you know what, it gets better, because it has too. As evolution has proven, the healthy brain cells always eliminate the poor ones, so soon this memory will be faded away.”
“Oh what the heck do you know about brain science?” the Weavile replied with mirth, it was clear he wasn't trying to lighten up for his friend's sake. It wasn't uncommon for Wagner to pull fake facts off the top of his head. Though he always did it to help others in some way or another.
“Hey you never know, I could be right.....hey! Look over there! It's a lake!”
As it turned out, Wagner's greater height turned out to be of good use to the duo, as there now was unquestioningly a large lake not to far away. It sparkled nicely under the solar reflections of the moon with the waves moving at a slow aesthetic pace. It wasn't long before both adventurous pokemon arrived at the lake, the water a couple feet away from their legs. However they realized that the currently faced an obvious problem.
“Uhh Wagner, buddy. Exactly how are we going to get across? Last time I checked neither of us knew how to swim.” Rocky said, staring out to the water.
“No idea” the Gliscor replied, scratching his head in confusion. “But I hear that when humans or anthros want to get across a body of water they sometimes build a little thing out of wood and float across. Maybe we could do that.”
The Weavile was content with his reply. It wasn't always that Wagner was especially helpful with anything, so he appreciated his subtle intelligence.
“I guess it couldn't hurt to see what we can find around here.”
For the time being the two pokemon split up to scour the nearby parts of the forest for available wood. It came to be pretty scarce for both of them, so they had to manually collect parts of smaller trees using their claws. It went pretty well, but they needed to make sure everything would float properly.
“Hmmm” Wagner started as the both regrouped to the same location in front of the lake. “I don't think this will have a huge issue floating...but how will we keep it all together?”
The weasel paused for a moment, eyeing the area for some kind of restrictive or adhesive material that could be strong enough to hold the several chunks of wood together. Then he realized that his own pokemon biology could be of perfect use to them both.
“I think I've got it.” he replied.
Rocky leaned over and let an easy ice beam form between his two paws. Once it had developed enough he leaned over and artistically let the ice run between the gaps in the wood. It only took another few moments before all of the crafty parts were sealed together, the great lack of molecular activity keeping everything nicely in check.
“See? Everything is staying together.” the dark type added, leaning the raft towards the lake.
“But what if all the ice melts before we get to the other side?” the bat asked.
The Weavile smiled smugly in response. “Let's hope it doesn't then.”
Together they leaped on top of it, finally resting in a comfy sitting position before they both shoved it over the small cliff and into the water, where it stayed steadily afloat. As they got farther and farther out into the water it became more apparent that the lake was very large. According to a vague and probably not very accurate mental calculation by Rocky, the little scrap of wood was not going to hold together the entire way, the ice was not strong enough. But all that was temporarily put on hold when Wagner looked out over to his side of the raft and saw a black colored tail mildly flop above the surface, leaving the bat pokemon scared into a frenzy.
“Uhhh Rocky, I think there's a shark in the lake!” he shouted directly at the Weavile's face.
“My God, do you need to be so loud? And there are no sharks in lakes. They're only in the ocean.”
But that response failed to console Wagner. “Then what was that I just saw?!?!”
Since his Gliscor friend was known for his over-exaggerations Rocky didn't really believe there was anything around, but to his great shock the same dark, smooth tail flicked tauntingly not to far from the raft, leaving Rocky now just as worried as Wagner.
“I..I don't know what that is...but we need to go faster!” Rocky roared in response.
It really was not much use, both pokemon were not built to swim very quickly, or even swim for that matter. Leaning over and using all their strength they stroked as swiftly as they could but the raft barely increased in speed. So it was pretty easy for the large water creature to spontaneously raise his head out of the water, making the two pokemon scream wildly. The creature before them was an anthro in anatomy, black and white colored with floppy brown hair an the top of his head. He was an orca that Rocky knew very well.
“Gosh, Mark! What did I tell you about scaring me like that!” he shouted at the orca who was holding on to the edge of the raft, preventing it from going anywhere.
“Aww I can't help it.” Mark replied with a wide grin. “The look on your face is priceless every time!”
At that point the Weavile and the orca looked over at Wagner, who was staring wide-eyed, and still very speechless.
“Oh Wagner, I don't know if you've ever met him but this is Mark. He's a good friend of mine.”
The Gliscor slowly, with clear anxiety, extended a claw out to Mark which he shook. His fright never changed throughout the friendly greeting.
“Hehehe” the anthro orca giggled. “How delicious, he's scared of me.” Wagner scooted back a few inches, getting as far away as possible from the orca without tipping the boat over.
Mark then took a good look up and over the raft the two pokemon were riding, sliding a hand between the ice that bonded the whole thing together.
“You know this won't hold for much longer. What do you say I give both of you a ride the rest of the way? It's much faster, and safer! You never know what kind of dangerous creatures could be dwelling under the water.”
Mark's words weren't making Wagner any calmer, so he quickly rose to his feet, itching to get back on land. “I actually think my wings are feeling a lot better now.” he said as he leaped into the air and spread his wings. He was flying rather hurriedly, since he was under the impression that his life was at stake.
“Wait! Take me with you!” Rocky shouted. If his friend had heard him, he just chose to ignore him.
“Looks like it's just you and me, pal.” Mark said with a wink. “So want be to give you a lift?”
“Ugh...sure why not.”
The Weavile promptly rose up, looming his legs over the orca's snout so he could grab on to his back.
“What do you think you're doing?” Mark asked inquisitively.
“I'm getting on your back so you can take me across. What else would I be doing?”
“Well you're in luck today. You get to ride first class on the Mark express!” Before Rocky could ask what he meant by that the orca's maw shot open, drool dripping down on the front of the raft. The Weavile tried to back away but Mark shot his arms out of the water, gripping the pokemon's back tightly enough to fling him forward head-first into his large maw, eager to lather Rocky with slobber. He tauntingly slurped up the weasel pokemon's legs like two noodles, playfully scooping up his toes in between his wet lips. Rocky was briefly tossed back and forth in an exceedingly playful manner, as Mark wanted to get as much taste as his fur would offer.
“Mmmmm still as tasty as ever!” he gleamed as his tongue settled down inside, leaving Rocky to find a comfortable position inside in mouth.
“Brrrghhh thanks I guess.” Rocky moaned as he attempted to swat away some excess saliva off his body.
Because if his very uncomfortable location the ride to the other side of the lake felt like it was taking hours when only ten minutes had gone by. It especially wasn't pleasant when the orca began speaking WHILE he was in his mouth. It jolted him around too much.
“Look at that, your little raft fell apart. See? You both could have drowned if it weren't for me.”
“Yeah....sure, pal.” Rocky replied unpleasantly.
“So as I see it: I'm giving you a ride across the water AND I just saved you from drowning. I think you're now heavily in debt to me aren't you, little Weavile?”
Rocky forcefully snorted, making sure that Mark was aware of how much he never appreciated his taunts.
“You know I don't know why I let you talk to me like this?” he continued with a smile. “You know I could easily knock you out.”
“Then why do I always end up catching you? Face it...you have more limits than you want to acknowledge.”
The pokemon was silent throughout the rest of the trip. It wasn't anything that had to do with Mark, but rather everything else that was going on around him. He anxiously thought to himself: Was the orca even aware of anything? Should I tell him? Maybe another time, I don't want to get him hurt. And Mark was right about something: I most certainly have limits, as I've well realized earlier today.
In the midst of his mild mental crisis they had arrived at the other side. The ocra leaned his arms and his head onto the grass and coughed the weasel pokemon out, leaving him dripping with drool. He slashed most of it away, but then Mark was kind enough to throw some water on his to help get all of it off, which was tiresome.
“Well...thanks again, bud.” Rocky began, extending his claw. “You did really help me out today.”
The orca grinned toothily and shook his claw. “Don't worry, I had fun doing it. So I'll see you later?”
“Yeah..we'll be back soon.”
With a heavy swat of his large tail Mark was back in the lake, completely submerged, probably deep underwater already. Once it became clear that the whale wasn't coming back Wagner came out from behind one of the nearby trees and gave Rocky a tight hug.
“I'm happy he didn't eat you! Whales are just so awful!”
“Relax, Wagner.” Rocky said while brushing his friend off him. “He's a good friend of mine. He was never going to hurt us.”
“Well that's a relief! Though I think you should take a bath as soon as you can. You smell like orca slobber.”
“Yeah haha I'd say we both do right about now.”
Somewhere infinitely far away a certain creature was cockily watching the two pokemon continue their trek deeper into the forest. He had been keeping tabs on Wagner since the bat pokemon had first escaped capture by his army, and since then he had found their actions from the battle with Ace and Strike to riding the Orca to be absolutely hysterical. The giant, green being happily slapped his rough yet oddly rubbery hand against his thigh, laughing out loud as he eyed them through his inter dimensional portal.
“This? THIS is my most powerful opposition?!?! Two puny, pathetic pokemon think they can overthrow ME?!?!? HAHAHA! I am going to have soooo much grinding them into pudding and scraping their meat from under my toes! HAHAHA.”
The malicious monster continued cracking up arrogantly until he opened a different portal, one for a different function than simply viewing, and walked through it...going back into his immense, fantastically horrific castle, where he had other business to take care of.
