I'm imitating Tex Avery here, at least a format he used in his cartoons... Come up with a premise- Say an audition for circus performer- That you can develop a bunch of gags based on your premise, but are short, self contained bits, leading up to a big payoff joke. Go on YouTube and watch "Daredevil Droopy" and you see what I'm talking about.
