ONLY SORTA MY ART: Coloured Doran sketch by Ruaidri
ONLY THE COLOURING IS MINE. The original linework for this was done by
Ruaidri and is posted here: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/17596660/ Spread the love accordingly. ^..^
Ruaidri's an artist I've admired for quite a while, and he recently posted a journal asking for people to share some references he could draw on to practice heads and faces. I was fortunate enough to be selected, and was really pleased with the result. I think he expertly captured that funny duality that makes up a Dorey; being a dragon and therefore carrying some sense of imposing presence, but actually just being a big soft semi-shy fluffball.
With his permission, I thought it'd be a lot of fun to try colouring it myself. It's a fun and interesting challenge colouring someone else's sketchwork. There's some degree of interpretation to be had around where to place the shading and contours, and hoping that you're seeing things the same way the original artist did. I tried to keep a light hand and a soft look to the colours so it would complement the original work rather than drown it out, and I'm happy with the result.
It's also something I tend to enjoy as, for me, the linework is always the hard and tedious bit I can never get to turn out quite how I want, whereas colouring and shading is the part I really have fun with. So getting to do something like this is pretty win-win for me. ^^
