Finished version of the 'munk I'd been working on earlier. I rather like the ballpoint coming through to the surface as a sketchy quality but on my next attempt I'll have to make sure that sketch is more visually appealing before I begin painting. I used a photo for reference for the pose but the end result is only vaguely similar.

The trick to getting very fine lines like that is just to have a very long and fine brush ( I think they're called scripting brushes?) and to have a high-pigment, fluid paint, and not to load down your brush too much. It takes some trial and error but is handy for painting things like whiskers which HAVE to be fine or they look really awful.
It's so easy to make globby whiskers and fur :( I've had to learn through a lot of trial and error. You can't go straight from the pallet to the painting. You have to wipe a little off first. There is a very set series of behaviors a brush has depending on the amount of paint, amount of water or thinner it has, the way you hold it, how much pressure you use, etc. I suggest getting a very fine scripting brush and just practice making lines every which way until you get a feel for it.
another question, how big are most of your paintings usually? It has this sort of roughness like a oil pastel stroke or kinda like really waxy pencil, especially like the redness in the fur, and the scratchy cross hatch look in the background. it's just really cool and keeps fooling me at first glance
