Illustration #3 of 5, for my upcoming novel "The Spiritwalk"
This is one of five prints for the book, in which I'm attempting to illustrate a novel in the ways of the old magazine prints of H.G. Well's, and Doyle's "Sherlock Holmes" in the Strand magazine of the 19th century.
The chapter in question with full illustrations is here:

Thank you, and yes she is. Your comment showed me I need to fix the file where this came from. But from my story "The leave taking"
I quickly looked up and give an open mouth smile at my lovemate. She stood calmly, her paws held behind her back. The dimming light gave her white fur on her bare chest and belly a soft, almost unearthly glow, but the darker green short skirt, and her grandmother's belt disappeared in the approaching gloom. With her hair in a ponytail this time, instead of flowing I couldn't help but to admire her. Actually I always felt a bit insecure around her, since the bucks were always interested in her in the rut.
Holding out my paws, when I stand "Stardreamer" I call to her. She however only reluctantly does the same. We both sniff each other's interdigital gland then I look at her quickly. Her scent was laced with pheromones of stress, then I could see her ears held back slightly, her eyes narrow.
--
It has been a difficult journey to develop this story-world, especially going though the SF path of uplift, instead of the standard way that most 'furs' have been portrayed. But your comments showed me that I am indeed doing the right thing.
I hope to have more works from Russell here soon. Cost, as you can understand.

pawesome 🐾!! your story is really neat; i like how they sniff each others interdigital gland like it's a natural thing to do, in that excerpt!!! (when i get the time i will read it all) also, realistic/uplift anthros are the best! they mean a lot to me spiritually, like they are sapient but with a different species' instincts and body structure, and they are based off existing animals so someday they could feasibly exist. i hope that when these animals exist that they and regular humans can truly be friends, and we can solve the shared nature of sapience ❤️ of course i also particularly like the four-hand since hands are so important and sensitive to humans; because i think they would hold almost everything very differently!! definitely looking forward to more
Thank you. I'm working on an experimental novel now that I hope will show me how to write Spiritwalk. When I wrote this story, I wanted to be realistic, how would an uplift actually act? All the previous works I read was never this 'animistic' aside from possibly 'Sirius' by Olaf Stapledon. (You can read that here: http://gutenberg.net.au/ebooks06/0601151h.html)
To be honest, uplift has been a part of my life since I was very little. It's been my dream of actually speaking to animals and being mentally 1 on 1 with them. Of course that's not possible (now) but who knows what the future holds?
I believe too a lot these dreams comes from my native-american upbringing. My Grandmother was a traditional cherokee and to their culture animals was sapient, along with spirits in everything. I just worked out someway of making them more possible.
Solve the shared nature of Sapience. Yes indeed, that is something I had in my notes early on. That although the uplifts was slaves in the beginning, they earned their freedom, and in the Terra story-world, they actually helped humanity become far better than they are now.
There is actually two storyworlds. Terra is more of our future to the 31st century, which becomes more like a star trek type universe.
Terra Ragnarok (death of the gods) is Terra, until a junbar point in the shared histories where it becomes a post-apocalyptic world. Reverted to the 17th century in tech, world is fragmented, some went tribal. But in the end, they come together again and become a star faring civilization. This is where this particular story is from.
Both are growing in complexity and size, and I'm hoping to bring out more stories in it soon.
This new experimental novel, will be serialized and posted here. Chapter 1 is nearly sketched out, chapter 2 is on it's way, so I hope you like the works.

cool!! really looking forward to your uplift literature and worldbuilding!!! i'm glad the uplift animals earned their freedom ❤️❤️❤️ that is also an awesome way to be introduced to animal sapience ❤️ unfortunately, i'm not exactly sure when or why i started being interested in such things, but it is essentially a spiritual interest. i was raised pretty secularly and tried to contemplate spiritual concepts for myself
"Sirius" is one of my recent favorite books!! i especially like when the eponymous dog asks existential questions, and explores his talent of singing and composing.
