Illustration #5 of 5, for my upcoming novel "The Spiritwalk"
This is one of five prints for the book, in which I'm attempting to illustrate a novel in the ways of the old magazine prints of H.G. Well's, and Doyle's "Sherlock Holmes" in the Strand magazine of the 19th century.
The chapter in question with full illustrations is here:

Thank you very much Russell and I go WAY back and he's an incredible artist. I'm not sure if I posted his address, but here he is on DA since I noticed you linked to me recently - https://www.deviantart.com/russelltuller/
I really wish. That novel came to me about 5 years ago and I've yet to make anything of substance on it. I know that the main reason is; I don't know the story world. Which is why I'm working on World-Anvil to develop it. But best-laid plans of Anikawi and Men (sighs)
The only canon part of it is 'The Leave Taking' - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/17427968/ If you spot one called "Night of the Beast" (either on DA or FA) I'm unsure if it will be. It's so well done I can make it a short story, with a different protagonist, but it contains elements that may work its way into Spiritwalk itself.
That's also the story that's made Spiritwalk hit the brake. It introduced an underground area that I feel is critical but I've never been able to figure it out. Is it an underground lab which was used to create the Plentycaels? Or an alien base? Or natural?
Thank you, however! I'll add you to my beta reader list

You are very welcome! I've been following Russell's works for a while but I didn't see this one yet ^^;. I recall though some of his journals where he mentioned that he was working on some projects for a story, till now I had no idea the drawings were for you ^^;.
I can relate in some way to the situation of your story, about 4 years ago the spark of a story came to me and I decided to try working on it and draw scenes to help giving it life. At the time I had zero drawing skills and nothing seemed to work as the world was a huge puzzle with several pieces missing. Now with more time, thought and maturity I am starting to make something out of it, but still very slowly.
Thanks for linking the story to me, I faved it to read it later along with the other stories you sent =), it is amazing how a story can grow so big and complex one has to stop it to work on developing more elements to fill the spaces with life and colors. I am crossing my fingers that you'll find a clear path to finishing your story.
It is so fun that almost all my friends from here are also writers, my guess is that I probably have something important to learn from you folks or writing will help me achieve something I am yet to discover ^^;. Please add me to your reader list, I'd love to follow the progression of your works and the story as well =).

Yes that was me indeed. I encouraged him to become a story illustrator and he nailed it on the head with my first story "When the animals looked for man" -- that's a complex history so I won't go into it now. Now I hope and pray that he too gets over his family stress soon and I can finish that one to sell finally.
That is the problem and you're having the same problem. Small stories I can see in my mind. When they get big, then they're harder and harder. Spiritwalk actually is the vanguard of what my writing coach called "My Appalachian Middle-earth" as Appalachia is a culture and land all it's own. Combine it with a more primitive aspect, native Americans, other humans (there is actually a few unique people here), and all the mythology, legends, cryptozoologicals, and not to mention the secrecy and you get a unique mix that is similar to Dr. Tolekin's world. I'm having now to just do short fiction in it to bring out all the ideas while my 'Lord of the Rings' is slowly developed.
I think writers get into the /deep aspect/ of our genre. Ones like you can see and bring to life the things we can only see in our minds. While we bring out the details. I'll leave you a note in PM here in a moment as something's come to mind and I'm offering it only to some people.

You two did an excellent job together, of course he has a merit of his own but you have yours too for encouraging him =). I saw a journal where he explained a bit of his situation, hope things are improving by now for him.
What you said is very accurate, what I've been doing now is trying to write small chronicles that introduce core elements of my fantasy world, I have a very good friend helping me on this process. She is far more experienced in writing and took a particular interest in some of the characters I offered ^^;.
My problem with writing is that to me it is absurdly difficult to take a slice of time and tell a tale, I need to start from the beginning of all things, this drives me crazy and the tale grows absurdly ^^;.
I agree, all the art can get a bit pointless if there is no story to put everything together, to me art has to have a meaning, either to tell a tale, criticize something and sometimes to shock as well. I saw your note and need to work on replying to it, I didn't forget ^^;.
